Orient Lines Debuts 2009 Europe Cruises Aboard Marco Polo II

Celebration, FL, Aug 27 - Amalfi, St. Tropez, Mykonos, Mallorca, Monte Carlo and Santorini, just their names alone evoke romantic images of the picture-perfect summer holiday. In 2009, Orient Lines will visit all of them in addition to a host of new ports in the Baltic, Black Sea, British Lake District, Croatia, North Cape and Northern Europe.  New for 2009, the line will enhance each itinerary with a free shore excursion in selected ports.

Highlights for 2009 include cruise-tours which begin or end with an included hotel stay in Berlin, plus calls at the lesser-known ports of Szczecin, Poland; Villagarcia and Bilbao, Spain; Bordeaux and Hornfleur, France; Murmansk, Russia; Sarande, Albania; and Barrow-in-Furness in Cumbria, England. The destination cruise specialists at Orient Lines have carefully planned each new itinerary to include overnight stays on board ship in selected ports. With two full days, guests have time to see the pyramids from Port Said, shop for bargains in Istanbul and Lisbon, explore the classical treasures of Rome and Athens, or visit St. Petersburg and Copenhagen.

Orient Lines’ new 650-guest Marco Polo II is larger in size yet carries nearly 200 fewer guests then the brand’s former flagship. “At nearly 25,000 tons, Marco Polo II is the perfect size for cruising in Europe,” said Wayne Heller, the line’s president and CEO. “She’s large enough to offer every four-star comfort, yet small enough to enter the snug harbors and intimate coves where mega-liners cannot go.”

Aboard Marco Polo II guests enjoy the intimacy and charm of a European boutique hotel while offering the comforts of a modern cruise liner. The vessel has 325 staterooms, complete with such amenities as en suite mini-bar, color TV, personal safe/safe drawer and built-in hair dryer. Suites also feature sitting areas, twin sinks, bidets and terry cloth bathrobes.

Public rooms include a single-seating main dining room, as well as a French and Italian brasserie; grill room serving prime meats, chicken and seafood; and Lido deck buffet serving regional specialties. The vessel also has several bars and lounges, cinema, casino, Internet center, library, card room, duty-free boutiques, outdoor and indoor pools, spa and modern gymnasium. Enrichment lecturers and gentlemen social hosts are also on board to enhance each voyage.

The ship’s deck officers are European, the social staff American and British, and the hotel staff – perhaps the line’s greatest asset – are Filipino. To make a reservation on Orient Lines’ new Marco Polo II see a travel professional or call toll-free 800-333-7300. For more information visit www.orientlines.com

Silversea's Prince Albert II Makes Inaugural Call to NYC

Ft. Lauderdale, FL, Aug 27 -- Fresh from a summer of explorations in the Arctic, Silversea Cruises' new luxury expedition ship, Prince Albert II, arrived in New York City on Monday, August 25. While docked at the New York Cruise Terminal, she is hosting three days of gala receptions for members of Silversea's Venetian Society loyalty club, travel agents, media, New York dignitaries and other special guests.

A high point of the inaugural festivities was an elegant dinner lastevening in the ship's restaurant attended by Monaco's Consul General, Hon. Mrs. Maguy Maccario-Doyle; Mr. Joseph Kaiha, French Polynesia's minister of culture; Mrs. Hinano Bagnis, special envoy of French Polynesian President Mr. Gaston Tong Sang; Silversea's chairman, Manfredi Lefebvre; and Amerigo Perasso, president and CEO of Silversea, to mention a few notables. Highlighting the evening was entertainment provided by a colorful and lively troupe of Tahitian dancers performing traditional dances of Polynesia.

Perasso commented, "We're delighted that our unique concept of luxury expedition cruises has been so well received by the public. In fact, most of the voyages during our first season in Antarctica have already sold out. This is a testament to the increasing interest in exploring our planet's most remote regions and having the option to enjoy such adventures from a base of comfort and luxury."

Later today the Prince Albert II sets sail along the eastern coast of the U.S. to continue a special inaugural series of voyages spanning from Fort Lauderdale to Los Angeles before the ship ultimately repositions to South America and Antarctica for autumn and winter expeditions.

The Prince Albert II will be deployed in Papeete from mid-March to late October 2009, offering expedition cruises to the less-traveled regions of Polynesia ranging from the southernmost Austral Islands to the sprawling Tuamotu Archipelago and the northernmost Marquesas Islands. For the balance of 2009, the 132-guest luxury expedition ship will offer a series of Antarctic explorations with convenient roundtrip departures from Ushuaia.

The Prince Albert II offers full-scale exploring from an ultra-luxury base at sea, in true Silversea style. With the largest average size accommodations of any expedition ship, guests enjoy spacious, ocean-view accommodations (many with French balconies or large private verandas), sumptuous gourmet cuisine, warm hospitality and personalized service (with a crew-to-guest ratio of nearly 1 to 1), and Silversea's generous selection of all-inclusive shipboard amenities, including complimentary beverages, bottled water, wines and spirits served throughout the ship, 24-hour room service, stocked in-suite beverage cabinet and all gratuities. Plus, complimentary Butler Service is provided in the Grand and Owner's Suites.

Nickelodeon Expands Cruise Partnership With Royal Caribbean Intl

NEW YORK, Aug. 25 -- Nickelodeon and Royal Caribbean International announced plans to once again set sail together on two brand-new, exotic cruise adventures in summer 2009. Based on the success of the first-ever, sold out Nickelodeon Family Cruise with Royal Caribbean, the two companies are teaming up to offer families new cruises from each U.S. coast -- one on Mariner of the Seas to the Western Mexican Rivera, and another on the Freedom of the Seas to the Eastern Caribbean. The announcement was made just after the completion of the first-ever Nickelodeon Family Cruise with Royal Caribbean (Aug. 10-17).

"Coming off the success of the first Nickelodeon cruise this past week, we're thrilled to build upon our relationship with the announcement of two additional themed cruises," said Adam Goldstein, President and CEO, Royal Caribbean International. "Royal Caribbean International constantly works to give our guest unparalleled vacation experiences which provide every family member with a very special and memorable cruise. Our partnership with Nickelodeon helps build upon this foundation."

The 2009 Nickelodeon Family Cruises will depart from the East and West coasts: the first cruise will sail from Los Angeles, Calif. on July 26, 2009, on Royal Caribbean's Mariner of the Seas, the largest ship to be homeported on the West Coast, and will travel to the exotic Mexican Rivera (exact locations to be determined); the Eastern Caribbean itinerary will leave on Aug. 9, 2009 from Port Canaveral, Fla., on the largest ship in the cruise industry -- the Freedom of the Seas -- and will sail to St. Thomas, St. Maarten and Royal Caribbean's private island, CocoCay, Bahamas.

The Nickelodeon Family Cruise with Royal Caribbean brings families experiences that are unique to the cruise industry. Traveling to exotic destinations, the Nickelodeon Family Cruise is designed for every member of the family--kids, parents and grandparents. It brings together the entertainment expertise of Nickelodeon with the cruise specialists, Royal Caribbean. On-board, Nickelodeon will provide families with such experiences as interactive game shows; meet-and-greets and performances by their favorite Nickelodeon stars; never-before-seen screenings and premieres of new, original Nick TV shows and movies; visits with favorite Nick characters including SpongeBob SquarePants, Dora the Explorer, Diego and Aang from Avatar: The Last Airbender; and plenty of Nickelodeon's signature slime.

On the two new cruises, families will enjoy all of the luxurious accommodations that Royal Caribbean cruise liners offer. Mariner of the Seas offers guests revolutionary amenities, such as an on-board ice-skating rink, full-size basketball court, inline skating track, the cruise line' iconic rock-climbing wall and the Royal Promenade, a boulevard of shops, restaurants, bars and lounges that runs nearly the length of the ship. Freedom of the Seas, the largest ship in the world, also offers a multitude of activities, including the FlowRider surf simulator, the H2O Zone water park, an ice skating rink, a nine-hole mini-golf course, 10-route rock-climbing wall, as well as the line's other signature amenities.

Vacation packages for each Nickelodeon Family Cruise go on-sale to the public beginning in mid-September. Additionally, in 2009, a new sales program for travel agents will be implemented. Visit www.nickfamilycruise.com for more information and reservations. For more information about Freedom of the Seas or Mariner of the Seas, visit www.RoyalCaribbean.com or www.FreedomoftheSeas.com.

Norwegian Sky Donation Benefits Salvation Army's
Miami Adult Rehabilitation Center

As a result of Norwegian Cruise Line’s (“NCL”) fleet-wide product enhancement initiative Freestyle 2.0, NCL donated more than 1,300 mattresses to the Salvation Army. The mattresses were off-loaded from Norwegian Sky, which offers 3- and 4-day Bahamas sailings from Miami, and donated to the Salvation Army’s local Miami chapter. The mattresses will serve as upgrades to the residential dorms at the Salvation Army’s Miami Adult Rehabilitation Center (ARC) and will also be sold in Salvation Army Family Stores. Proceeds from the store sales will support the ARC to fund expenses such as food and counselors.

The Salvation Army has more than 100 Adult Rehabilitation Centers (ARC) across the nation serving men with substance abuse, social, emotional and spiritual issues. Similar programs for women are also available at most centers. Each residential care center provides participants with free housing, regular meals, medical check-ups and mental health programs. As part of a nine-month treatment plan, participants are offered individual and group counseling, job-skills training and substance abuse courses.

“We rely on in-kind-donations, such as this generous one from Norwegian Cruise Line, in order to change our ARC participant’s lives and make our community stronger,” said Lieutenant Jay Ward, administrator of the Miami ARC. “This opportunity will allow us to further the ARC program and provide these men with the help they need to overcome their handicaps and live better lifestyles.”

In addition to Norwegian Sky’s charitable donations, Norwegian Spirit, Norwegian Star, Norwegian Jade, and Norwegian Dawn are also involved in initiatives to give back to the community, as well as the environment. Norwegian Star will donate approximately 2,000 mattresses to benefit the Seattle chapter of the Salvation Army and The Cross Disciples Center and Church. Norwegian Dawn donated more than 500 mattresses in New York to a waste-to-energy facility where they were converted into re-useable resources. Norwegian Spirit has an established donation program aiding charities in various ports of call it sails, providing items ranging from pillows to wheelchairs. Norwegian Jade, as part of a fleet-wide recycling program, has recently off-loaded scrap metal to be recycled in Southampton. This month, crew members from Norwegian Majesty picked up 1,300 pounds of trash along the streets and beaches in St. George’s, Bermuda.

Summer Begins Labor Day Weekend When Cruise Philly Kicks Off Its Cruise Season With Bermuda Sailings

Camden, NJ -- CruisePhilly kicks off its 2008 season Labor Day Weekend, Saturday, August 30, when the Norwegian Majesty makes its first sailing from the Philadelphia Cruise Terminal. As many residents are enjoying the unofficial last weekend of summer at the Shore, CruisePhilly passengers are just starting their summer beginning with the pink beaches of Bermuda. This season marks the first year the Norwegian Majesty will sail its fall season from Philadelphia. The Norwegian Cruise Lines' (NCL) ship accommodates 1,462 passengers and offers a broad array of amenities, including NCL's popular Freestyle dining program and a multitude of entertainment, spa, and fitness options. NCL is also the only cruise line offering passengers three days in port in Bermuda.

"We welcome Norwegian Cruise Lines to Philadelphia and we look forward to a successful 2008 season," said John J. Matheussen, CEO of the DRPA, the parent agency of the Port of Philadelphia and Camden. "We hope regional residents will take advantage of the opportunity to enjoy a second summer and sail with us."

Philadelphia continues to be a popular choice for regional residents for convenience, affordability and customer service. The Philadelphia Cruise Terminal consistently receives high marks from passengers, with a positive overall experience rating from more than 90 percent of those surveyed.

"Cruising from the Philadelphia Cruise Terminal for Philadelphians is like cruising from their own backyards." said Kate McNamara, Director of the Port of Philadelphia and Camden. "There's no need for a long drive to get their vacation started. Cruising is just as close as a Phillies game or a fall trip to the Linc."

The Majesty begins its Philadelphia season with five seven-day trips to Bermuda, calling on the picturesque port of St. George. While in port, guests can enjoy a number of shore excursions from an Adventure Cave Tour offering a hands-on experience of the caves of the Island's East End, to the Dolphin Dip allowing tourists to enjoy a rare opportunity to swim with dolphins.

Bermuda is only the beginning of cruising options from the Philadelphia Cruise Terminal this season. The Norwegian Majesty will also be making seven day sailings to Canada and New England departing four consecutive Saturdays beginning October 4th. The Majesty closes out its Philadelphia season November 1st with a grand 14-day repositioning cruise through the sunny heart of the Southern Caribbean.

Princess Cruises "Heart of Alaska" Video Wins "Best Cinematography" Award

SANTA CLARITA, CA, Aug 21 - In addition to the widespread praise already received from the film and travel communities, Princess Cruises' "The Heart of Alaska" video has earned a special level of recognition by winning the "Best Cinematography" award at the New York Independent Film & Video Festival, one of the largest independent film festivals in the world. "The Heart of Alaska" beat out nearly 100 Best Film entries for the prestigious award at the festival's recent Los Angeles competition.

"The Heart of Alaska" is a unique high-definition documentary that showcases the Princess cruisetour experience by beautifully depicting the land, wildlife and people of Alaska with dramatic visuals and music. The 26-minute film, photographed and directed by Princess video producer Scott Martin, features fascinating interviews with some of the people who make the state unique, as they tell their stories of life in the untamed wilderness of Alaska's interior.

"We're delighted that the judges at the New York Independent Film & Video Festival recognized how superbly this film was photographed," said Jan Swartz, Princess Cruises senior vice president. "'The Heart of Alaska' may well be the most unique cruise destination video in the industry because it uses a documentary style to tell its story through local voices. With stunning photography and music, it's just like something you'd find on a nature channel... or in a theater."

Viewers meet rangers from both Denali and Wrangell-St. Elias National Parks, Alaska natives, homesteaders and dog mushers who share an insiders' perspective of life in the 49th state. Other voices include a bush pilot, a captain from Fairbanks' iconic riverboat and a mountain climber. The film also brings the audience up close to the wildlife of Denali National Park, including bears, moose, dall sheep, and caribou. Soaring photography takes viewers high above the world's tallest peaks, including "The Great One," Mt. McKinley.

"The Heart of Alaska" is the first in a series of Princess videos offering a unique look at the company's destinations. It can be purchased aboard the line's Alaska ships or at any of Princess' five Alaska wilderness lodges. Princess is a leader in Alaska vacations, giving travelers the opportunity to combine a cruise with rail and wilderness lodge options to experience the top highlights of this majestic state.

Orient Lines Reborn: Marco Polo II

CELEBRATION, FL, Aug 20 -- Orient Lines, the destination cruise specialist founded by British cruise and tour entrepreneur Gerry Herrod in 1992, and which was recently acquired by another cruise industry visionary, Wayne Heller, is preparing to set sail in 2009.

The “new” Orient Lines earlier announced plans to acquire vessels rich in history and character and that can carry 600 to 800 passengers in comfort and safety to all seven continents, much like the former company’s beloved Marco Polo. Additionally, the new owner’s plans include preserving Orient Lines’ hallmark cruise-tour product, which seamlessly incorporated pre- and/or post-cruise hotel stays and orientation sightseeing tours, as well as distinguished guest lecturers and local cultural highlights, where possible.

Moving forward, Orient Lines has now announced that its new flagship, to be christened Marco Polo II, will carry 650 guests in 325 staterooms, two thirds of which are outside. The cruise liner, which most recently sailed as Maxim Gorkiy, will make her maiden voyage for Orient Lines in April 2009. Rich in character and history, Marco Polo II promises proven ocean-going capabilities, including an ice-strengthened hull, deep draft, Denny Brown fin stabilizers, bow thrusters and ample provisional stores, essential for cruising to all seven continents. The vessel has a classic interior décor and handsome exterior profile with a raked bow and traditional cruiser stern.

At nearly 25,000 tons Orient Lines’ new flagship is larger in size than her Marco Polo predescessor, yet carries nearly 200 fewer guests. The added space translates to a greater number of public areas and amenities including an indoor spa pool and four separate dining venues, six bars, a show lounge, cinema, casino, library, Internet center, card room, state-of-the-art fitness center and outdoor pool. Marco Polo II will maintain the line’s proven service formula with European officers, American and British social staff, and a friendly and gracious Filipino crew.

“We’re delighted to introduce Marco Polo II to Orient Lines’ large and loyal family of past guests,” said Wayne Heller, Orient Lines’ president and CEO.

After roaming the Med throughout summer 2009, Marco Polo II will set sail on a 33-day Grand Transatlantic crossing on Oct. 25, 2009 from Venice to Rio de Janeiro and begin a series of South America voyages. To receive additional ship and itinerary news electronically or by mail, you may register at www.orientlines.com or call toll-free 800-333-7300.

Some history: Marco Polo II was originally built in 1969 for the German Atlantic Line. She underwent multi-million-dollar refurbishments in 1988 and 1995 and will receive additional enhancements to be fully compliant with Safety of Life at Sea (SOLAS) 2010 requirements.

MIAMI, Aug 20 – Carnival Cruise Lines will deploy the 2,052-passenger Carnival Elation on a new 3- and 4-day cruise schedule from San Diego beginning Feb. 12, 2009. The ship currently operates 4- and 5-day cruises from San Diego and will continue that program through the departure of Feb. 7, 2009. On its new route, Carnival Elation will depart Thursdays on 3-day cruises to Ensenada, providing a value-packed long weekend getaway. 4-day cruises will depart Sundays and visit two ports, Ensenada and Catalina Island. The Carnival Pride operates seven-day Mexican Riviera cruises from Long Beach year-round (to be replaced by the new Carnival Splendor in March 2009) and the Carnival Spirit offers seasonal eight-day Mexican Riviera voyages from San Diego.

Myriad ‘Fun Ship’ Features
Part of Carnival’s highly successful Fantasy class, the 70,000-ton Carnival Elation features 12 lounges and bars, including a multi-level theater showcasing lavish revues, a 12,000-square-foot health and wellness center, full casino gambling, and a wide range of full-service and casual dining options. Cunard's 2009 World Cruises and Segment Voyages Offer Savvy Travelers a Pinnacle Travel Experience

SOUTHAMPTON, England, Aug. 14 -- Today's unfavorable exchange rate is making the quest to travel and see the world more challenging than ever but experienced travelers know that, right now, those same currency fluctuations are making one of travel's ultimate "trophy trips" more affordable than ever. Priced in US dollars and immune to exchange rate variations, Cunard's World Cruises aboard flagship Queen Mary 2 and the new Queen Victoria, as well as a host of shorter segment voyages that bear all the hallmarks of a classic Cunard World Cruise, combine the tradition, elegance and glamour of the Golden Age of Ocean Travel with compelling itineraries to some of the world's most storied and celebrated ports of call.

Available fares make Cunard's legendary World Cruises more sensible than comparable five-star travel experiences on land since, at sea, meals and entertainment are included. For travelers without the luxury of time to sail a full World Cruise, both ships offer shorter segment voyages ranging from 15-30 days. Space is still available on some of the most popular segments including Queen Mary 2's 28-day Ft. Lauderdale to Los Angeles segment; 15-day Los Angeles to Sydney segment; and 31-day Singapore to New York segment.

"More than ever, today's luxury travelers seek experiences that bring both value and meaning to their lives," says Carol Marlow, president of Cunard Line. "Across all levels of accommodation, a Cunard voyage is a pinnacle travel experience which continues to include all gourmet meals, entertainment and enrichment programs."

Whether guests are onboard for the full World Cruise or a shorter segment voyage, they'll have the opportunity to experience the Line's award-winning Cunard Insights Enrichment Program. Among the speakers scheduled to appear are oceanographer-meteorologist Joe Bishop, astronaut Walter Cunningham, ocean liner authority and color commentator William Miller and adventurer Harvey Mann.

Queen Mary 2
Departing from Ft. Lauderdale simultaneously with her sister ship Queen Victoria on January 13, 2009, Queen Mary 2's Epic Expedition features 26 port calls on five continents. The ship will journey in a westward direction, sailing around South America to Los Angeles, then across the Pacific Ocean to Honolulu, Hawaii. From there, stops include Pago Pago, American Samoa; Auckland, New Zealand; Sydney, Australia; and Dubai, United Arab Emirates. The voyage culminates in New York on April 14, 2009.

Queen Victoria

Komen for the Cure® via its On Deck for the Cure program, earning it a place on Komen's prestigious Million Dollar Council. Costa Cruises Celebrates 100th Sailing in China & Opens Shanghai’s
New Cruise Terminal

MIAMI, FL, Aug 8 – Costa, Europe’s Number One Cruise Line, celebrated the arrival of the Costa Allegra in Shanghai for the first call of the Summer 2008 season from the port with a celebration for the opening of the “Shanghai Port International Cruise Terminal” and the Italian brand’s 100th cruise in China. Costa was the first international cruise company to operate regular cruises in China and Asia, bringing its special brand of “Cruising Italian Style” to the Chinese market. Operations began on July 3, 2006 from Shanghai with the 28,000-ton Costa Allegra. Since then, Costa has completed a total of 121 cruises in Asia, 100 of which were in China with nearly 40% of these from the Port of Shanghai. The Costa Allegra has brought more than 60,000 cruise guests to Shanghai since operating cruises there. Given the success of Costa’s signature experience of “Cruising Italian Style,” Costa will bring a second ship, the 53,000-ton Costa Classica, to Asia and China in March 2009.

In 2008, the Costa Allegra will operate 19 cruises, 14 of these from the Shanghai port and four during the Beijing Olympic Games, which will be broadcast on board the ship on large screens in public areas and in cabins. For 2009, 34 cruises representing an 80% increase are planned for the Costa Allegra and 31 cruises for the Costa Classica.

“China’s cruise market has good growth potential – Shanghai together with Tianjin (the port of Beijing) will play an important part in this sector due to their role as main ports and economic centers for China,” said Gianni Onorato, President of Costa Cruises. “Costa was the first to offer cruises in China and chose Shanghai as its home port. This is the city where we began to develop our activities in China and the results of those decisions have gone beyond our greatest expectations.” He continued, “Since 2006, the Costa Allegra has completed 121 cruises in China and the Far East. Overall, nearly 75,000 guests have taken a vacation on board the Costa Allegra, including nearly 50,000 Chinese guests. These figures are real proof of just how much China and Asia appreciate the quality of the service and the style of our cruises,” he added. It is also a concrete example of the worldwide success of our ‘Made in Italy’ product – 98.28% of our Chinese guests are satisfied or very satisfied with their Costa cruise vacation.”

The Tourism and Cruise Market in China
Tourism is one of the most rapidly growing sectors in the Chinese economy. According to the World Travel and Tourism Council, in 2007 the economic impact of tourism in China amounted to 440 billion USD, or nearly 6% of the world’s total, generated by tourism. Between 2008 and 2018, this figure should increase at an annual rate of 9.6%. More than 35 million Chinese tourists traveled abroad in 2007. These Chinese tourists represent nearly 6.2% of the world’s tourism demand. Forecasts indicate that by 2010 there will be more than 50 million Chinese tourists abroad and 100 million by 2020.

According to data from the Ocean Shipping Consultants, an independent research company based in Great Britain, the Northeast Asia cruise market (China, South Korea and Taiwan) will continue to grow at a constant rate. In 2005, it had an estimated 440,000 cruise passengers, a figure which is expected to increase to 720,000 in 2010.

Shanghai Port International Cruise Terminal
The new terminal, which will become operational with the arrival of the Costa Allegra, was specially designed to dock international cruise ships. Located along the Huangpu River, it covers a total area of 350,000 m², extends over four floors and can dock up to four cruise vessels at the same time. An ultramodern terminal in terms of efficiency and safety, it will be able to complete immigration procedures at the rate of just 48 seconds per person. The area will also include business centers, hotels, offices and art galleries.

Costa Cruises in Asia
In the Summer of 2008, the Costa Allegra will offer short 4- to 6-night cruises with departures not only from Shanghai but also from Hong Kong and Tianjin. The itineraries include the new destination of Fukuoka (Japan), in addition to Cheju (South Korea), Sanya (China), Da Nang and Cai Lan (Vietnam), Nagasaki and Kagoshima (Japan). These short voyages will be supported by longer 14- and 15-night cruises to the Far East, with calls to ports in Japan, South Korea, China, the Philippines, Malaysia, Brunei and Vietnam. These cruises are designed for Chinese and international guests.

Beginning on March 27, 2009, the Costa Classica will offer 31 cruises ranging from 4- to 14-night cruises, with departures from Singapore, Shanghai, Tianjin, and Hong Kong. The various itineraries will include visits to some of the best destinations in Asian countries.

“Cruising Italian Style” in Asia
The Costa Allegra offers its Chinese guests the best of “Cruising Italian Style.” Dining options range from the Italian-flavored Amalfi Restaurant, located in one of the ship’s most panoramic vantage points, as well as in two other restaurants and buffets. All include authentic Italian cuisine including fresh, home made pastas and pizzas. Guests may even enjoy Italian cooking lessons with topics including how to prepare the perfect “pasta al pesto” and more from Costa’s renowned Italian chefs.

Entertainment options feature Italian touches, including an “Italian Night,” complete with the election of a “Mr. Spaghetto” and a song competition during an “Italian Festival.” A special theater show called “Made in Italy” features entertainment inspired by Italian history and traditions. The Costa Allegra shopping area provides guests with the opportunity to purchase major Italian name brands including Armani, Bulgari, Dolce & Gabbana, Gucci and Antica Murrina.

Costa Cruises is Italy and Europe’s number one cruise line. For the past 60 years its ships have sailed the world, offering the best in Italian style, hospitality and cuisine and providing dream vacations with the best in fun and relaxation. In 2007 over 1.1 million guests chose to cruise with Costa, a record for the European cruise industry. The company’s 12 fleet members, each with her own distinctive characteristics and unique style, all fly the Italian flag and sail each year to 250 destinations in the Mediterranean, Northern Europe, the Baltic Sea, the Caribbean, South America, the United Arab Emirates, the Far East and the Indian Ocean. Five more vessels have been commissioned and will enter service by 2012. For reservations or more information, contact a travel agent, call (800) GO-COSTA or visit www.costacruises.com.

MIAMI, FL, Aug. 5 – For many spa-going travelers, top spa retreats in mountain locales and countryside villas have made way for a new type of spa experience – cruising the Mediterranean aboard the Costa Serena and Costa Concordia. Both ships boast the award-winning Samsara Spa, a 23,000 square-foot wellness haven featuring Ayurvedic treatments and European-style spa amenities. Exclusive accommodations with direct access to the spa come complete with spa packages and privileges to a private wellness restaurant, creating a “vacation within a vacation” for travelers cruising the ships’ Mediterranean routes.

Costa—The First to Offer Exclusive Spa Cabins at Sea
Costa pioneered this innovative spa concept just two years ago when the Costa Concordia became the first cruise ship in the world to boast the exclusive spa accommodation and restaurant concept. The Italian cruise line followed suit in 2007 with the introduction of the Costa Serena, which as a sister ship to the Costa Concordia, also boasts the Samsara Spa. Guests who choose spa accommodations receive a host of luxurious amenities including flat screen televisions, a special set of Elemis bath accessories and a “Welcome Ritual,” all included in the cruise price.

The “Welcome Ritual” features unlimited access to the spa and its European-style amenities including a thalassotherapy pool, rock sauna, steam baths, hot and cold thermal baths, ocean-view solariums, relaxation lounges, and a tepidarium. Guests who reserve these accommodations will also receive two complimentary spa treatments, two complimentary fitness and wellness classes, a personalized wellness consultation with a spa expert, two sun-lamp sessions in the solarium and an invitation to a special Japanese spa tea ceremony. In addition, guests who reserve exclusive Samsara Spa accommodations will have access to wellness cuisine in the Ristorante Samsara. This specialty restaurant features spa-friendly cuisine in an intimate atmosphere.

“The Samsara Spa experience is not only unique because of the direct-access accommodations and innovative features it offers, but also in the fact that it’s a veritable ‘vacation within a vacation’ for guests, the likes of which many spa aficionados haven’t experienced before,” said Maurice M. Zarmati, President and CEO of Costa Cruise Lines—North America. “Samsara spa guests can slip in and out of their realm when they please and either enjoy the sanctuary of their surroundings or revel in the excitement of the authentic Italian warmth and sophisticated European style of sailing with Costa, all while hopping from port to port in the Mediterranean.”

The 23,000 square-foot Samsara Spa, one of the largest at sea, also features an ocean-view fitness center with state-of-the-art equipment, an expansive fitness studio for wellness and meditation classes, and a full service beauty salon. The Costa Serena features a Samsara Spa with 99 accommodations (87 cabins and 12 suites) while the Costa Concordia boasts 67 (55 cabins and 12 suites.) Both provide a veritable extension of the experience at all times with direct access to the spa via elevator and stairs.

Ayurvedic Treatments Inspired by Ancient Eastern Philosophies
Elements of the spa’s invigorating treatments and stunning design are inspired by the meaning of “Samsara,” which is associated with the path to spiritual enlightenment, bliss and balancing of life energies. The Samsara Spa features numerous treatments composed of aromatic herbs, essential oils, exotic plants and Ayurvedic essences. Ayurvedic-inspired treatments include Shirodhara, a treatment where a flow of warm oil is directed onto the third eye (forehead) to induce the alpha state of deep relaxation, integrate brain function and create brain wave coherence. This is followed by luxurious Eastern massage techniques on the scalp, which focus on meridian lines and the crown chakra, bringing harmony and well-being to the body. The popular Shiorobhyanga Massage focuses on releasing tension through the Marma points on the hands, back and feet. Beginning with Shirodhara, a warm stream of oil soothes the third eye, calms the mind and enhances awareness. Warm oil is then slowly drizzled on hands, forearms, feet and back which are then treated to an invigorating massage, releasing blocked energy, stress and tension through Marma points.

The Costa Serena was inaugurated in May 2007 while her sister ship, the Costa Concordia, was inaugurated in July 2006. The 114,500-ton ships feature a double occupancy of 3,000 each. Both ships were built for year-round Mediterranean cruising with features including a retractable cover extending over two pool decks and the expansive Samsara Spa. They also each feature a Grand Prix race car driving simulator, the most accurate representation of Formula One racing available. Two new ships will offer the Samsara Spa product when they come into service in June 2009 – the 92,700-ton Costa Luminosa and the 114,500-ton Costa Pacifica.

Oceania Cruises Commences Construction of First Oceania-Class Ship “Marina”

Miami, FL, August 4 – Oceania Cruises is pleased to announce that it has commenced construction of its first new Oceania-Class ship during the gala steel-cutting ceremony at the Fincantieri’s Sestre Ponente Shipyard in Genoa, Italy. Presided over by Frank Del Rio, Chairman of Prestige Cruise Holdings, Oceania Cruises’ parent company, and attended by some of the line’s most loyal past guests, the first piece of steel was ceremoniously cut to officially begin construction of Oceania Cruises’ first brand-new ship. During the ceremony, Del Rio also revealed the name of the first ship as Marina along with design details of the Veranda Staterooms and Penthouse Suites.

“Oceania Club members, our loyal repeat guests, are not only responsible for Oceania Cruises’ success, they have also played a great role in the design and development of these splendid new ships,” stated Del Rio.

After the ceremony, Oceania Club members, dignitaries from Fincantieri and members of the media toured the builder’s mock-ups of the Veranda Staterooms and Penthouse Suites. These accommodations, which are on average, 50% larger than those on the Regatta Class ships, will set new standards for spaciousness and comfort.

Veranda Staterooms, at 312 square feet, will incorporate larger sitting areas, marble-clad bathrooms with separate tub and shower, copious closet space and extra-large private verandas for relaxation.

The Oceania-Class represents an evolution of the line’s extremely popular Regatta-Class ships. This new class of mid size cruise vessels will retain all of the warmth, popular design elements and signature amenities of the Regatta-Class while affording guests an additional level of comfort, convenience and many new luxury amenities. Designed to cruise to all corners of the globe, the new ships will boast a cruising speed 20% faster than the Regatta-Class. In addition to their greater speed, the new ships will have a greater range that enables them to undertake the itineraries to virtually any destination worldwide.

Silversea's Prince Albert II Set to Explore French Polynesia in 2009

Ft. Lauderdale, FL, August 4 -- Ultra-luxury Silversea Cruises today revealed details of its 2009 schedule of expeditions for the Prince Albert II, calling for the ship's deployment in Papeete from mid-March to late October 2009. An exciting collection of new itineraries will feature the less-traveled regions of Polynesia ranging from the southernmost Austral Islands to the sprawling Tuamotu Archipelago and the northernmost Marquesas Islands. For the balance of the year, the 132-guest luxury expedition ship will offer a series of Antarctic explorations with convenient roundtrip departures from Ushuaia. The ship's positioning in Tahiti is the result of numerous efforts and successful meetings between Silversea and the French Polynesian government.

"We are delighted to base the Prince Albert II in beautiful Tahiti for a series of explorations next year," said Amerigo Perasso, Silversea's president and CEO. "The South Pacific is home to magnificent natural vistas and some of the world's most intriguing cultures, offering our guests the perfect setting for mind-enriching, authentic adventures."

In the spirit of true adventure, all itineraries are unstructured by design. Following only a tentative schedule that allows for moment-by-moment flexibility, expeditions stay longer at sites of particular interest, or make slight detours whenever weather, nature or mere curiosity dictate. Highlights of the 2009 French Polynesia program include:

AUSTRAL ISLAND ADVENTURES
Nestled in the Tropic of Capricorn, the remote Austral Islands lie hundreds of miles south of Tahiti and enjoy a slightly cooler climate. Tubuai, largest of these volcanic islands, is probably best known for the failed landing attempts of the H.M.S. Bounty. (The island's villagers assaulted the unwelcome ship with a barrage of stones, and ultimately the mutineers sailed off to Pitcairn.) Prince Albert II and her fleet of 8 Zodiac boats will explore the unique culture, flora and fauna of Rapa, Raivavae, Tubuai, Rurutu and Rimatara on five 11-day, roundtrip journeys from Papeete. Silver Sailing fares start at $3,897 per person, based on double occupancy.

JOURNEYS TO THE MARQUESAS
The mountainous islands of the Marquesas are located nearly 900 miles northeast of Tahiti and just south of the equator. With a lush, vibrant terrain bursting with myriad exotic flowers and fruit trees, it's easy to understand how this tropical paradise captivated the artist Paul Gauguin, who made the Marquesas his adopted home. On four roundtrip journeys of 14 days from Papeete, Prince Albert II's expedition team will lead in-depth explorations of Fatu Hiva, Pua Mau, Hiva Oa, Atuona, Ua Pou, Nuku Hiva and Tahuata, as well as Manihi and Fakarava Island in the Tuamotu Archipelago and the Society Islands of Bora Bora and Tahaa. Silver Sailing fares start at $4,917 per person, based on double occupancy.

TUAMOTU EXPEDITIONS
The isolated Tuamotu Islands, northeast of Tahiti, comprise the world's largest chain of atolls. Its 78 sparsely populated coral islands span over 900 miles of aquamarine waters. Dotted with quaint villages, coral churches and an abundance of wildlife -- from bottlenose dolphins and coconut crabs to the rarest of birds, this remote archipelago offers endless possibilities for real Robinson Crusoe-style adventures. Departing from Papeete, Prince Albert II will embark on five 10-day expeditions to the Tuamotu islands of Tikihau, Rangiroa, Apataki, Arutua and Fakarava, as well as Raiatea, Maupihaa and Huahine in the Society Islands. Silver Sailing fares start at $3,597 per person, based on double occupancy.

The Prince Albert II offers full-scale exploring from an ultra-luxury base at sea, in true Silversea style. With the largest average size accommodations of any expedition ship, guests will enjoy spacious, ocean-view accommodations (many with French balconies or large private verandas), sumptuous gourmet cuisine, warm hospitality and personalized service (with a crew-to-guest ratio of nearly 1 to 1), and Silversea's generous selection of all-inclusive shipboard amenities, including complimentary beverages, bottled water, wines and spirits served throughout the ship, 24-hour room service, stocked in-suite beverage cabinet and all gratuities. Plus, complimentary Butler Service is provided in the Grand and Owner's Suites. Detailed information and complete itineraries for Prince Albert II's 2009 expeditions are available at www.silversea.com.
