Queen Elizabeth Delights Guests With Maiden Voyage Surprises

Oct 28: Queen Elizabeth completed her 13-night Maiden Voyage in Southampton, England on Tuesday. As well as enjoying the thrill of being the first to sail on Cunard Line’s new Queen, guests were also treated to several surprises during the voyage.

British singing icon Lulu stormed the Royal Court Theatre with a rousing performance of hits and a tribute to the 1980s and was joined by surprise guest Kiki Dee.

Headlining the Cunard Insights line-up was broadcasting legend Sir David Frost, who spoke to a packed theatre on “Interviews I Shall Never Forget.” Frost, who led the TV satire boom in the 1960s, has interviewed the seven most recent US Presidents, as well as Vladmir Putin and Nelson Mandela (the latter on QE2 in March 1998), and was the subject of the hit 2008 motion picture “Frost/Nixon.”

In addition, the first marriage proposal took place on board, with guest James McCracken proposing to girlfriend Lisa Lehman – the answer was “yes!”

Most importantly, Queen Elizabeth received a warm welcome from the hundreds of Cunard guests on board who have been full of praise for both the ship and her crew. In fact, 98% of those on board reported that they would recommend Queen Elizabeth to a friend, which bodes extremely well for her Maiden Season. One of the many highlights of the voyage was the ship’s new restaurant, The Verandah, which was full every night with guests enjoying fine French cuisine in a setting reminiscent of the original Queen Elizabeth.

“Queen Elizabeth is a spectacular addition to our majestic fleet,” said Peter Shanks, president of Cunard Line. “Expectations were bound to be high for her Maiden Voyage, which sold out in 29 minutes 14 seconds, and I am elated to hear the high praise from our guests. This is a true testament to the ship’s officers and crew who have done a magnificent job. We can’t wait to welcome future guests on board,” he added.

Queen Elizabeth received warm welcomes and bon voyages from all the ports visited during her Maiden Voyage: Vigo, Lisbon, Cadiz, Las Palmas, Tenerife, La Palma and Funchal. For more information and to book a voyage aboard Queen Elizabeth, contact your travel agent, call toll free 1-800-7-CUNARD (1-800-728-6273) or go to queenelizabeth.cunard.com.

Disney Dream’s Spectacles Designed to Take Cruise Ship
Family Entertainment to New Heights

CELEBRATION, FL, Oct. 26: Talk about elevating cruise ship entertainment to new heights: A little mermaid soars over the stage in a stunning aerial ballet … Pirates rappel from atop the ship’s funnel during a swashbuckling adventure … The evening sky lights up with a dazzling spectacle of sound and color. When the Disney Dream sets sail in January 2011, Disney Cruise Line is more than just raising the bar with entertainment designed to charm and bedazzle the entire family. Guests will delight to some of the most elaborate original musicals presented at sea, over-the-top deck parties and, bursting above it all, the largest fireworks spectacular aboard a cruise ship.

It’s Show Time!
Every night is show time at Walt Disney Theatre, an elegant, 1,340-seat entertainment palace that is at once classic and ultra-modern. Spanning three decks with orchestra and balcony seating, the theater is resplendent with art deco styling recalling luxurious show places of a bygone time. At the same time, it is equipped with theatrical technology that makes it one of the most advanced venues on land or sea, allowing producers to bring original productions and Disney stories to life in a whole new way. The lineup of musicals presented at Walt Disney Theatre includes:

“Disney’s Believe”
Headlining the musical repertoire is “Disney’s Believe,” an original stage spectacular premiering aboard the Disney Dream. Combining a heartfelt story with a captivating musical score, the lavish production tells the story of a workaholic father who, through the power of Disney magic, reconnects with his daughter and learns a valuable lesson about what is important in life. More than 20 of Disney’s most beloved characters take the stage during “Disney’s Believe,” including Cinderella, Peter Pan, Mary Poppins and Belle from “Beauty and The Beast.”

‘The Golden Mickeys’: A Timeless Tribute
“The Golden Mickeys,” an award-style show celebrating the musical heritage of Disney animated films, is a Disney Cruise Line guest favorite. On the Disney Dream, the show gets an extra sprinkle of glitz and glamour with new production numbers including an aerial ballet featuring Ariel from “The Little Mermaid” and a romantic duet performed by Rapunzel and Flynn Rider, lead characters of Disney’s newest animated feature, “Tangled.”

‘Villains Tonight!’
The malevolent world of the Disney villains takes a comical spin in “Villains Tonight!,” the first full-scale musical production dedicated to the Disney villains. The show is a fun-filled musical comedy starring Hades (“Hercules”), who embarks on a quest filled with wacky antics and amusing musical numbers to bring evil back into the Underworld. “Villains Tonight!” features a “Who’s Who” of Disney “baddies,” including Ursula (“The Little Mermaid”), the Evil Queen (“Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs”), Captain Hook (“Peter Pan”) and Scar (“The Lion King”).

Party on Deck
The Disney Dream transforms into a pirate ship with two new events brimming with buccaneer fun and a new fireworks spectacular. The evening kicks off with “Mickey’s Pirates IN the Caribbean,” a family-friendly interactive show featuring the famous Disney characters. Then, a special appearance by Captain Jack Sparrow, from the “Pirates of the Caribbean” films, kicks off “Club Pirate,” a high-tech, open-air dance party on the upper decks of the ship. Guests unleash their inner pirate and dance their boots off during this family-friendly and electrifying bash featuring stunning visuals and special effects.

Fireworks at Sea
The only cruise line to feature fireworks at sea, Disney Cruise Line ups the entertainment ante and lights up the sky with the largest fireworks extravaganza presented aboard a cruise ship. The skies above the Disney Dream explode with brilliant colors during “Buccaneer Blast!” With more “bang” than ever before, the pyrotechnic spectacular is choreographed to a dramatic score featuring songs from the “Pirates of the Caribbean” movies, Peter Pan and the Pirates of the Caribbean attraction at the Disney theme parks.

Abu Dhabi Anchors Homeport Status With MSC Cruises

Oct 2010: Abu Dhabi’s ambition to become an international cruise hub has received a significant boost, following the signing, between Abu Dhabi Tourism Authority (ADTA) and MSC Cruises of a landmark cooperation agreement that will see one of the world’s fastest growing cruise operator deploy one of its top vessels to the UAE capital on a homeport basis from Oct 2011. Abu Dhabi’s anticipated elevation from port-of-call to homeport status strengthens the UAE capital’s nascent cruise tourism credentials and serves as a core enabler in ADTA’s strategy to attract 2.3 million hotel guests to the emirate by the end of 2012.

Under the terms of the agreement, Abu Dhabi’s Mina Zayed Port will serve as the primary embarkation and disembarkation point for the Italian operator’s maiden regional itinerary – scheduled for the 2011-2012 season - using its luxury MSC Lirica liner. With its ultra-modern fleet, MSC Cruises’ entry into the Arabian Gulf will see MSC Lirica - a 59,000-tons vessel with a capacity of 2,199 guests in 784 cabins - provide 19 eight-day/seven-night cruises covering five destinations between Nov 2011 and March 2012.

"MSC Cruises’ commitment to Abu Dhabi as a homeport will deliver both tactical and strategic outcomes for the emirate,” said Mubarak Al Muhairi, Director General, ADTA. He added, "Beyond the substantial, broad-based benefits to our domestic tourism sector through incremental gains in hotel guests, longer length of stay and greater spending, this partnership provides Abu Dhabi a firm footing on the international cruise tourism map and reinforces the strategic case for a world-class, purpose-built cruise terminal in the emirate.”

“MSC Cruises is proud to become the first cruise company to choose Abu Dhabi as a homeport.” said Pierfrancesco Vago, worldwide chief-executive-officer, MSC Cruises. “With our state-of-the-art vessel MSC Lirica operating 95 calls and 19 rotations in the region, our presence will have a significant impact on the tourism industry of Abu Dhabi. We see Abu Dhabi as an exciting cruise destination which has already proved immensely popular with international tourists. MSC Cruises will be an important catalyst in driving growth in cruise tourism in the region. After having discovered the UAE and their exciting attractions from our luxury ship, visitors will come back again, as they always do, further boosting the development and promotion of local economy.”

To foster continued growth in the cruise sector, Al Muhairi revealed that ADTA will, by the end of the year, commission a technical and operational feasibility study in co-operation with relevant domestic and international stakeholders towards the development of a dedicated cruise terminal capable of handling mega and boutique cruises alike. ADTA had earlier completed a cruise tourism study in February, with a key output being that full-fledged homeport status for Abu Dhabi has the potential to deliver upwards of 50,000 new visitors annually. MSC Lirica’s 19 voyages next season translates to a potential of 39,000 cruise arrivals alone.

The ADTA-MSC Cruises co-operation is a major coup of the authority’s Horizons Abu Dhabi program, an incentive-based trade engagement initiative designed to attract innovative promotional concepts to stimulate consumer demand across the emirate’s rapidly-expanding tourism offerings. The pact will see the partners collaborate in a series of cross-marketing activities, leveraging their shared presence at international travel, tourism and cruise-specific shows. Taking in 14 different trade shows in 10 European and Asian countries, ADTA and MSC Cruises will share exhibition space for promotional purposes. ADTA and MSC Cruises will also jointly mount a year-long promotional and publicity campaign in more than ten target markets to promote the MSC Lirica’s maiden season in the Gulf. Closer to home, ADTA and Abu Dhabi Ports Company, which operate Zayed, have pledged to oversee MSC Lirica’s berthing duties next season, as well as ensure all aspects of passenger handling meet international standards. ADTA is planning to boost its existing cruise terminal visitor centre adding facilities, such as a currency exchange facility and special stakeholder booths, to its current offering of heritage demonstrations.

The luxurious MSC Lirica which will mark the official entry of MSC Cruises in the Emirates with 19 rotations in 2011-2012, features a sophisticated and elegant decor, superb attention to details in all areas, the finest Italian and international cuisine and a dazzling array of entertainment and activities. Surrounding MSC Lirica’s 19 regional forays will be repositioning cruises from-and-to Genoa, Italy, on Oct 14, 2011 and March 9, 2012.

Norwegian Cruise Line To Build Two New Next Generation Freestyle Cruising Ships

MIAMI. Oct 25: Following the successful launch of Norwegian Epic, the Company’s largest and most innovative ship to date, Norwegian Cruise Line announced today that it has reached an agreement with MEYER WERFT GMBH of Germany to build two new next generation Freestyle Cruising ships for delivery in spring 2013 and spring 2014, respectively. Each of the 143,500 gross ton vessels, the largest passenger/cruise ships to be built in Germany, will have approximately 4,000 passenger berths and a rich cabin mix. Additional details about each ship’s new and exciting features will be released as construction progresses. The contract price for the two vessels is approximately €1.2 billion. The Company has committed financing in place from a syndicate of banks for export credit financing in connection with this project.

“We have always been focused on a disciplined approach to capacity growth. Our decision to add two new ships reflects the significant progress we have made in improving our operating performance and repositioning the Company over the last several years, as well as the strong market demand we are seeing for Norwegian Epic and our other ships,” said Kevin Sheehan, Norwegian Cruise Line’s chief executive officer. “Building on the incredible success and popularity of Norwegian Epic, we are taking the best of what our newest ship has to offer, as well as drawing on our legacy of innovation in the cruise industry, in creating a new class of Freestyle Cruising vessel that is sure to provide our guests with the unparalleled freedom and flexibility they have come to expect on a Norwegian cruise.”

“We are excited to be returning to MEYER WERFT and are confident that their rich ship building history and expertise will bring our vision to fruition,” added Sheehan. MEYER WERFT, based in Papenburg, Germany, most recently built Norwegian’s four Jewel-class ships – Norwegian Gem delivered in 2007, Norwegian Pearl and Norwegian Jade delivered in 2006, and Norwegian Jewel delivered in 2005. These new vessels are the eighth and ninth that the Company will build with MEYER WERFT.

“Norwegian Cruise Line and MEYER WERFT have a long history of working together. We are thrilled to continue our partnership. Our teams work very well together and we are looking forward to building this new, exciting and innovative class of vessels,” said Bernard Meyer, managing partner of MEYER WERFT. “In addition, the 21,000 employees of the yard and its supplier companies* involved in the construction of the ships appreciate the new project from one of our longstanding customers.”

Norwegian Cruise Line pioneered the concept of Freestyle Cruising and currently offers guests the freedom and flexibility to enjoy their cruise vacation on their own terms, including multiple dining venues, relaxed attire, a variety of accommodations and world-class entertainment. Americans Work Hard At Relaxing–Vacationers More Likely To Get Up Early Than Sleep In

SANTA CLARITA, CA, Oct 25: Most relaxing Americans put a priority on having fun rather than sleeping while they are vacationing, according to a recent relaxation survey commissioned by Princess Cruises. With the busy holiday travel season upon us, many Americans may be looking for a little rest and relaxation in between, which, according to the survey findings, means different things to different people. The Princess Cruises "Relaxation Report" uncovered some surprising insights as to how Americans pursue leisure. The "Report" showed that 55% of vacationers preferred to get up early rather than sleep in on vacation, while 44% chose to sleep late.

Besides putting a priority on leisure time versus sleep time, the "Relaxation Report" also reveals that 6 out of 10 Americans prefer a spontaneous, go-with-the-flow itinerary rather than a set-schedule of activities while on vacation (selected by 38%). And, two-thirds (67%) of Americans prefer to relax on the beach rather than at the pool (26%). To aid in relaxation, Americans choose reading (25%), having a drink (20%) and listening to music (19%).

Princess Cruises, one of the best-known names in cruising, fielded the survey to gain some insights into relaxation habits while on vacation. "Because Princess is committed to providing our passengers a relaxing and rejuvenating vacation experience, we thought it would be fun to get some feedback about just what helps people relax during their precious time off," said Jan Swartz, Princess Cruises executive vice president.

Men vs. Women
The “Relaxation Report” also uncovered clear differences between how men and women relax. Men prefer to start their vacation day by getting up early (58%) rather than sleeping in (41%), while women are divided, with 51% preferring to rise early and 47% preferring to sleep in and catch some Z’s. Men prefer to relax by having a drink (25%), reading (18%) and listening to music (17%). Women, on the other hand, prefer to relax by reading (32%), listening to music (21%) and by having a drink (15%). When drinking on vacation, men prefer beer over wine (41% vs. 27%, respectively), while women prefer a glass of wine over a beer (45% vs. 27%, respectively). Also, more men than women choose watching TV (15% vs. 11%, respectively) and exercising (15% vs. 9%, respectively) as ways to aid in their relaxation.

Despite their differences, men and women have their agreements too. Both men and women choose country music as their favorite vacation tunes (25% and 22%, respectively), both prefer viewing a sunset (65% and 67%) over a sunrise (30% among both genders) and would rather relax on the beach (68% vs. 60%) than at the pool (25% vs. 26%).

Country is King
When it comes to tunes, country music was the clear winner with 24% of Americans preferring those songs over all else, followed in popularity by soft rock (21%), classical (17%), jazz (13%) and pop (12%).

Turn Off & Power Down
Contrary to popular belief, while mindlessly surfing the Internet or flipping through the television may sound like good ways to relax, in reality Americans couldn’t disagree more. Most Americans (97%) do not choose the Internet or the television (87%) as primary ways to relax while on vacation.

East vs. West
When asked to choose between viewing a sunset or a sunrise while on vacation, the responses varied based on where Americans reside. While 4 in 10 adults from the Northeast (40%) would rather see a sunrise, less than 1 in 3 of those in the Midwest (29%), in the South (27%) or in the West (27%) would choose dawn over dusk. There are also some regional differences when it comes to vacation reading preferences. A larger proportion of adults from the Midwest would rather read a magazine (47%) than would adults from the West (37%), the South (36%) and the Northeast (35%). Conversely, those from the Northeast (59%), the West (56%) and the South (54%) are more likely to choose a book than those from the Midwest (45%).

Vacation Barometer
How do you know when it’s time to take a vacation? Americans identified three key factors that lead to a getaway: being tired (30%), cranky (28%) and restless (22%).

About the Survey
The “Relaxation Report,” commissioned by Princess Cruises, is based on findings from an Ipsos poll conducted Aug. 26, 2010-Sept. 12, 2010 (due to the Labor Day holiday, no interviews were conducted between Sept. 1 and Sept. 8). For the survey, a nationally representative sample of 2,000 randomly-selected adults aged 18 and over residing in the U.S., was interviewed by telephone via Ipsos’ U.S. Telephone Express omnibus. With a sample of this size, the results are considered accurate within ±2.2 percentage points, 19 times out of 20, of what they would have been had the entire population of adults in the U.S. been polled. Ipsos Public Affairs is a non-partisan, objective, survey-based research practice made up of seasoned professionals.

AMBLER, Pa., Oct. 21: Cadence Keen Innovations (CKI) has recently announced that it will be the exclusive distributor of Allergy Technologies' ActiveGuard™ Mattress Liners, which kill bed bugs within 72 hours, to the cruise industry and other CKI-supported hospitality facilities. CKI is the leading provider of sleep solutions to the hospitality industry and a preeminent leader of bedding products to cruise line market. ActiveGuard mattress liners are a new revolutionary alternative to encasements that are thin, comfortable liners and are odorless and they work fast against bed bugs.

The new distribution deal makes Cadence Keen the exclusive distributor of ActiveGuard mattress liners for the cruise segment of the hospitality industry, according to Gus Carey, founder of Allergy Technologies. "We are truly excited to be partnering with Cadence Keen Innovations," said Carey. "Cadence Keen's leadership in the field of bedding distribution to the cruise line and other sectors of the hospitality industry instantly introduces ActiveGuard mattress liners to a global range of customers. Our liners represent an easy and effective approach to killing bed bugs that is unrivaled in pest control."

So as the war rages on against the bed bug infestation on land, so too will the fight continue at sea, led by Allergy Technologies (www.allergytechnologies.com). ActiveGuard mattress liners are a vital tool as part of any Pest Management Professional's (PMP's) bed bug treatment and control strategy program.

Essentially, ActiveGuard is an active mattress and box spring liner that provides a proactive step in any comprehensive bed bug control program for managing bed bugs. The impregnated liner is ideal for all residential applications and allows PMPs to deliver confidence and security backed by years of testing. Unlike encasements, ActiveGuard is the ONLY unrivaled preventative standalone tool that continues to kill newly introduced bed bugs beyond the life-cycle of this pest. ActiveGuard mattress liners have been lab and field tested on a variety of bed bug strains by research entomologists. The liners do not involve any airborne sprays or powders and no maintenance is required. It is one of the few bed bug products with both published lab and field data.

"ActiveGuard mattress liners are a revolutionary product that can be used in comprehensive bed bug control strategies and as a standalone preventative tool," said Joseph Latino, Allergy Technologies' Director of Sales and Marketing. "As a preventative tool, ActiveGuard is uniquely situated as the only pro-active treatment approach for both mattresses and box springs that continues to kill bed bugs beyond their lengthy life cycle."

ActiveGuard mattress liners are easy-to-install and they deliver a slow-release formulation that kills bed bugs but also kills dust mites in mattresses and box springs for up to two years. The liners come in four sizes that accommodate most mattresses and box springs, and ActiveGuard mattress liners have been lab and field tested on a variety of bed bug strains by research entomologists. The liners need no airborne sprays or powders and no maintenance is required. It is one of the few bed bug products with both published lab and field data. Hurtigruten’s “World’s Most Beautiful Voyage” Showcases New Hi-Tech Winter Lightshow

New York, NY, Oct: Hurtigruten’s classic voyage along Norway’s fjord-filled west coast has always been defined by its stunning landscape; and with the addition of the newly designed lightshow at the Finnkirka, or “Finnish Church” cliffs – aptly named for their Cathedral-like appearance – guests will be even further impressed. The modern-day tourist attraction, originally a place of worship for the local Sami people, is located at the entrance to the Kjollefjord in Finnmark and is regarded as one of the most beautiful sea cliffs in the world. The light display, designed by light artist Kurt Hermansen, premiered on Oct. 18 and can be experienced daily aboard Hurtigruten vessels until the end of the winter season in March.

Prior to this year, the Finnkirka had played host to concerts and masses during the summer but remained empty during the colder months. The creation of the new attraction was a joint effort between Hurtigruten and the local population, both of which wanted to continue to show off the holy splendor of the Finnkirka during the winter season. Vebjorn Jacobsen, who headed the Finnkirka project at Hurtigruten, believes the final product is an immense success. “Words cannot do the spectacle justice,” says Jacobsen. “You just need to experience it.”

Finnkirka is just one of the many natural wonders that guests aboard Hurtigruten’s Norwegian Coastal Voyage are privy to: the elusive Northern Lights, also known as the Aurora Borealis, are often cited as another highlight of the impressive 34 port winter journeys. Guests booking 2011 itineraries by Dec. 31, 2010, can get these experiences – and more – for up to 15% off with the early booking discount.

Hurtigruten is a world leader in expedition cruising, sailing to the most remote of destinations including Antarctica, Greenland and the Arctic’s Spitsbergen as well as year round along Norway's coast and Europe in the spring. Additional information on all of these adventures, as well as brochures and reservations, can be obtained from travel agents or Hurtigruten's visitor-friendly web site, www.hurtigruten.us; or by phone: (800) 323-7436; fax (888)-524-2145; for brochures (800) 582-0835, 24 hours a day.

Royal Caribbean Announces Opening of Its New School in Haiti

MIAMI, Oct 21: Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd., one of Haiti’s largest foreign investors for almost 30 years, today announced the completion of the L’Ecole Nouvelle Royal Caribbean – one of the first schools to be built in Haiti after the earthquake. The strategically located 6,500 square foot school complex is in northern Haiti near nine towns and villages: Labadie, Cormier, Ducroix, Fort Bourgeois, Marchegalles, Cimetiere-Juif, Champ de Mars, Port Francais and Cap Haitien. The campus consists of six buildings, with 12 classrooms, administrative offices, a computer lab and bathrooms. The school will provide children from the area an education, including classes in English and environmental stewardship. In the evenings adults will attend vocational training. This first school will be a primary school for grades kindergarten through 5. There will be three kindergarten classes with 36 students, and each grade 1 through 5 will have 25 students, for a minimum of 230 children educated this school year. Royal Caribbean’s next Haitian school building project is entering into the planning stages now.

“What better way to help Haiti than by educating the children?” said Richard D. Fain, chairman and chief executive officer, Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd. ”Haiti's needs are enormous, and although we can only be a small part of the solution, we believe our model school is a good start. We hope that these children will develop into leaders who will guide Haiti’s recovery in the future.”

In delivering the school to the Haitian people as promised, Royal Caribbean worked with South Florida based InnoVida and the St. Coleman’s School, as well as Haiti based ProDev, L’Ecole Nouvelle Zoranje and the Solano Foundation. The school is on land Royal Caribbean leases from the Haitian government. Royal Caribbean worked with InnoVida and used the company’s Fiber Composite Panels to build the entire school complex in only four weeks, using 50 local Haitian workers, in time for the 2010-2011 school year. All construction materials were transported from Miami onboard Royal Caribbean cruise ships. InnoVida’s structures can sustain hurricane winds, resist earthquakes due to their high deflection capacity, are waterproof and are a highly energy efficient system.

Continuing its tradition of promoting innovation and creativity, Royal Caribbean partnered with the YMCA of Greater Miami and provided children an opportunity to name the school in Haiti. Out of the more than 3,000 submissions received, a seventh grader from the YMCA afterschool program in Miami Lakes proposed the winning name L’Ecole Nouvelle Royal Caribbean. Beginning just three days after the earthquake, Royal Caribbean transported more than 3,000 pallets of much needed supplies on Royal Caribbean International and Celebrity Cruises ships that called on Labadee. Also, to date, Royal Caribbean’s monetary contribution to the Haiti relief effort is at least $2.5 million, which includes money raised from the donated Labadee calls, the onboard guest donations, and matching funds. The company’s operations at Labadee impact over 500 local Haitians who are either employees or vendors at Labadee commuting from nearby villages. Royal Caribbean also employs over 200 Haitian crew members onboard ships.

With the new enhancement, those who purchase Carnival’s Cruise Vacation Protection Plan will be able to cancel their cruise, regardless of the reason, and receive a future cruise credit equal to 75 percent of cancellation charges, provided they notify Carnival prior to the ship’s departure. Those who cancel for a covered reason will receive 100 percent cash reimbursement.

The “cancel for any reason” feature further bolsters the line’s current vacation protection plan, which offers a package of benefits, ranging from trip cancellation/interruption, trip delay, emergency medical evacuation, medical, baggage loss and baggage delay. The program also provides a 24-hour emergency assistance hotline. Last year, the plan was expanded to include severe weather watch/warning protection, as well as job loss protection.

“With the new ‘cancel for any reason’ enhancement, as well as the severe weather and job loss protection, our Cruise Vacation Protection Plan provides consumers with much-needed peace of mind knowing their vacation investment is protected regardless of the circumstances involved,” said Lynn Torrent, Carnival’s executive vice president of sales and guest services.

All plans purchased for voyages departing next year will be eligible for the "cancel for any reason" benefit, including those plans that were already purchased for an upcoming 2011 voyage. The price of the plan remains unchanged. The plan is administered by BerkelyCare, a recognized leader in travel insurance. Prices begin at $49 per person and vary by cruise cost. Guests must purchase the plan no later than the final payment date for the cruise to be eligible for the “cancel for any reason” benefit.

Hurtigruten Unveils Seven Distinct 2011-2012 Antarctica Itineraries

New York, NY, Oct 19: Stunning glaciers, mammoth icebergs, breathtaking tundra and up-close experiences with penguin colonies are par for the course on Hurtigruten’s seven Antarctica itineraries; and for guests booking by March 31, 2011, prices for these cruises are discounted up to 20%. Fares for the 12- to 20-day itineraries include a night in Buenos Aires before and after the cruise, all meals onboard, the services of expert guides, lectures, and PolarCirkel boat landings. These once-in-a-lifetime voyages explore the vast and mysterious wilderness of the White Continent, the coldest, driest and windiest destination on earth, replete with gleaming icebergs, blue whales and orcas feeding mere feet from the ships, and penguin populations whose individual rookeries number in the tens of thousands.

Although all of the itineraries give passengers a rare glimpse of this breathtaking continent, each cruise adventure provides a unique experience. The 20-day “Shackleton’s Antarctica” follows the same path as Shackleton’s original Endurance Expedition of 1914, navigating the western-most outposts of the Falkland Islands and South Georgia Island before heading to Antarctica. The 19-day “Shackleton’s Christmas” follows much the same route, but with traditional carols, festive meals, Santa Claus visits and a New Year's gala added in celebration of the holidays. A 15-day "Chilean Fjords & Antarctica" spends nearly six days in the White Continent and four days along the stunningly scenic Tierra del Fuego and Chilean Fjords, while the 12-day “Antarctic Discovery” focuses solely on the White Continent, sailing through the Drake Passage and down into the southern ocean during Antarctica’s gorgeous summer. Two 15-day options also center on Antarctica: the “Weddell Sea Adventure,” following the path forged by the Swedish Antarctica Expedition of 1901-04, and “Polar Circle Quest,” which heads to the rarely visited Marguerite Bay – home to a colony of rarely-seen emperor penguins.

Hurtigruten’s deluxe expedition ship, MS Fram, accommodates 318 guests in suites and staterooms and features a restaurant, two bars, panoramic lounges library, and Internet café and conference rooms. The early-booking savings can be combined with discounts available in the 1893 Ambassador Program, which includes 5% off Explorer Voyages to Antarctica in addition to exclusive discounts and recognition benefits for members.

Princess Cruises Will Add Alaska Ship in 2012

SANTA CLARITA, CA, Oct 15: After two years operating just three ships on its Voyage of the Glaciers route, Princess Cruises has announced that it will be returning a fourth ship to its signature itinerary for the 2012 summer season. The decision by Princess to increase its Alaska capacity was prompted, in part, by recent changes to the head tax structure in the state and the more balanced approach to doing business in Alaska, according to the line.

“We are particularly appreciative of the efforts of Governor Sean Parnell and the Alaska state legislature that have resulted in meaningful progress toward resolving the challenges facing Alaska’s recovery as a cruise destination,” said Alan Buckelew, president and CEO of Princess Cruises. “We still have work to do, but the recent changes definitely played a part in this decision.” Buckelew pointed out that bringing a fourth ship back to the Gulf of Alaska route has wide economic impacts from Southeast Alaska to Prudhoe Bay. “Because the one-way route lends itself to longer visitor stays, with visits to both the interior and Southeast Alaska, we calculate it has twice the potential economic impact of roundtrip cruises,” he said.

“We are especially pleased to be able to announce this additional capacity to our business partners and supporters throughout Alaska who have worked tirelessly to advocate for a more positive business climate,” Buckelew added. “They have improved the investment environment for all cruise lines and for all cruise dependent businesses throughout the state.”

Princesses’ Voyage of the Glacier itinerary is the line’s most popular Alaska itinerary, taking passengers between Vancouver and Whittier across the Gulf of Alaska with a visit to Glacier Bay and ports of call in the state’s southeast. Because many passengers on this one-way route usually spend extra time in Alaska’s interior utilizing Princess’ lodges, rail and motorcoaches, this itinerary provides significant tourism benefits to the state.

Full details of Princess’ 2012 Alaska deployment will be announced in spring 2011, including which ship will be added to the lineup. Additional information about Princess Cruises is available by visiting the company's website at www.princess.com.

Carnival Magic Floated Out at Fincantieri Shipyard

Oct 14: With less than seven months until its maiden voyage, the new Carnival Magic reached another construction milestone when it was “floated out” earlier this week from her outfitting quay at the Fincantieri shipyard in Monfalcone, Italy. The initial stages of a cruise ship’s construction take place in a dry dock facility. Once exterior outfitting is completed, the dry dock is flooded with water and the ship is “floated out” and moved to a wet dock facility where construction continues.

Exclusive images and video of the Carnival Magic’s float out can be viewed at carnivalmagic.com under the “How It’s Made” section.

The next major milestone of the Carnival Magic, sea trials in the Adriatic Sea, are slated for early next year in anticipation of the ship’s May 1, 2011, European debut.

The most innovative “Fun Ship” to date, Carnival Magic will offer a host of new facilities and features, including the RedFrog Pub, a Caribbean-inspired watering hole with its own private label beer, Cucina del Capitano, an Italian family-style restaurant that brings the heritage of Carnival’s captains to the table, and SportsSquare, expansive sports complex featuring the first-ever ropes course and outdoor fitness area at sea. Other innovations include Carnival WaterWorks aqua park, a Serenity adults-only retreat, The Lanai, a wrap-around promenade with whirlpools that extend out over the ship’s sides and a stunning indoor/outdoor café and live entertainment venue called Ocean Plaza.

Carnival Magic is slated to debut with a 9-day cruise from Venice to Barcelona May 1-10, 2011, followed by a series of 7- to 12-day Mediterranean voyages from Barcelona, the line’s first departures from that port. Following a 16-day trans-Atlantic crossing, Carnival Magic will launch 7-day Caribbean service from Galveston Nov. 14, 2011, becoming the largest cruise ship ever based in Texas year-round. Silversea Rolls Out Dramatically Reduced 'Solo Traveler' Fares on Select 2011 Voyages

Ft. Lauderdale, FL, Oct 14: Ultra-luxury Silversea Cruises has reduced the single supplement on more than 20 sailings in 2011 to just 10% - 25% (above the per-person, double-occupancy fare) for Vista, Veranda, and Midship Veranda suites. Initially launched last summer on select 2010 voyages, the line's specially reduced Solo Traveler fares proved such a popular incentive with independent travelers that the company is extending the offer to select 2011 itineraries.

"With special fares like these, which can be combined with Silver Savings, Free Air and $250 Shipboard Credit offers, there's no excuse for single travelers to stay at home," said Steve Tucker, Silversea's vice president of field sales for North America. "If you travel on your own, now is the ideal time to finalize your vacation plans for next year and treat yourself to the luxuries of a Silversea voyage."

Silversea's crew-to-guest ratio of nearly one to one ensures single guests will enjoy highly personalized service, warm hospitality, and an ambiance that makes them feel right at home. Also, on several voyages, Gentlemen Hosts will be on board, which is a real plus for single female guests looking for a dining companion or a dance partner. All-inclusive fares include a spacious, ocean-view suite (most suites feature a private veranda), attentive butler service, complimentary wines and spirits, fine dining, sophisticated enrichment and entertainment programs, and all onboard gratuities.

Solo Traveler, Silver Savings, and $250 Shipboard Credit are capacity-controlled programs and subject to availability. The Shipboard Credit is offered per suite, not per voyage, and only once to guests sailing on consecutive voyages. Shipboard Credit is valued in U.S. dollars, regardless of booking currency. It may not be redeemed for cash, and any unused portion will be forfeited. Additional restrictions may apply.

FREE AIR: A free roundtrip economy air package, that includes transfers between airport and pier on the day of embarkation and disembarkation, is available from 22 gateway cities in the U.S. and Canada. It is a capacity-controlled program offered for a limited time. Additionally, there are specially priced air programs available from another 50 cities.

Pop Art Icon Peter Max to Celebrate Birthday on Celebrity Solstice

MIAMI, Oct. 13: As holder of one of the world's largest corporate collections of contemporary art - including commissioned works holding large, live trees suspended within its sweeping, signature Grand Foyers -- and the first in the industry to offer self-guided art tours on an iPad®, Celebrity Cruises is thrilled to serve as the platform for the birthday celebration of one of the world's best known creators of pop art, Peter Max. Celebrity's art auction partner British American Auctions is hosting a "Top of the Art Collection VIP cruise" on the Oct 17th sailing of the stylish Celebrity Solstice, with Max onboard as a special guest of honor.

One of the most popular artists of the era, Max has been an icon in the world of contemporary art for more than 40 years, with his diverse body of work appealing to a broad spectrum of collectors and appearing not only in galleries around the world, but also on a 600-foot Woodstock concert stage, a giant World's Fair mural, and even a super jet. Cited as "America's painter laureate," Max also helped initiate The Statue of Liberty Renovation Project in 1984. With Max's work generally thematic of the 1960s, Celebrity will present in his honor on Celebrity Solstice's October 17th sailing a special adaptation of its nightclub party, "Groove," a 1960s-themed interactive event open to all guests.

In addition to celebrating his birthday in style on Celebrity Solstice, Max will participate in a question-and-answer session and signing event with guests onboard. An extensive collection of the acclaimed artist's masterpieces will be on exhibit to mark the occasion. On that same sailing, British American Auctions also will donate various artists' works for auction, with proceeds benefiting Celebrity's "Crew Welfare Fund," which assists members of the crew in times of need.

At the same time, Celebrity is rolling out across the fleet (with the exception of its megayacht, Celebrity Xpedition, in the Galapagos Islands) a unique offering created with British American Auctions: the opportunity for guests to purchase customized works of art created by Max, complete with the color scheme they request, and to have their personal photographs and portraits transformed with a colorful brush into original works of art by Max.

SEATTLE, Oct. 13: Small-ship line InnerSea Discoveries, sister company to American Safari Cruises, offers exhilarating cruises in Alaska in 2011 that go beyond the norm. Each of the four itineraries ranging from 7- to 14-nights is designed to take advantage of the wonder and wildlife that are hallmarks of the Alaskan wilderness. Rather than just being an observer, guests are invited to participate in daily included activities such as kayaking, hiking, stand-up paddle boarding, fishing, exploration by small water craft and more.

"We designed the itineraries to take advantage of Alaska's geographical attributes, authentic towns and to provide guests a multitude of meaningful ways to discover and get involved," commented Capt. Dan Blanchard, InnerSea Discoveries principal and CEO. "The ships serve as comfortable staging platforms that are a welcome sight after a day of unique adventures. Our goal is to provide guests the opportunity to reengage their senses and revel in new outdoor experiences."

The numerous activities offered cater to all levels of abilities. Guests choose the pace that appeals to them such as a tranquil paddle along the shoreline, a robust guided six hour paddle and hike at Deep Cove or quietly exploring pristine waters such as Yes Bay by stand-up paddle board. There are options galore including relaxing onboard to watch for sea and wildlife with a favorite beverage in hand from the on-deck hot tub. All itineraries feature a port call at the authentic town/communities of Wrangell or Klawock to mingle with the locals who look forward to sharing stories about their rugged history and native heritage.

The itineraries are purposely flexible as nature sets the schedule and the floorshow. If a pod of Humpback whales are frolicking in Frederick Sound, the ship makes time to stop and linger.

The on and off ship experiences are accentuated by experienced naturalists who present topical information and serve as guides on excursions.

Both vessels are undergoing full refurbishment with many enhancements being added such as underwater cameras mounted on the bows to view the world below the surface including dolphins playing in the bow wake, newly-developed kayak launching floats, flat screen TVs/DVDs/iPod docks in all cabins to view videos taken by guests each day, 24-hour streaming video from the underwater camera or DVDs, memory-foam mattresses in all cabins and main salons designed with the blended feel of a 1940's National Park Service Lodge and a neighborhood pub.

New York: Exclusive opera performances, New Year’s on the North Cape, rich history and culture, the midnight sun, the Northern Lights, stunning fjords and exotic wildlife at every turn: these are just some of the extensive cruise and land opportunities outlined in Hurtigruten’s new full-color, 100-page 2011 Norway Brochure. A name synonymous with exploration cruising, Hurtigruten has once again found new ways to make their classic voyage even more exciting for guests with the addition of new theme cruises and more shore excursions. Savings offers are detailed as well: travelers booking by Dec. 31, 2010, enjoy a 5% to 15% discount; an additional combinable discount of up to 10% is available for members of the “1893 Ambassador Program,” a free program which rewards repeat passengers; all topped off by 5% savings on shore excursions when pre-booked. Virtually all of the cruises are centered on 6-, 6- and 12-day sailings along the spectacular fjord-filled west coast of Norway year-round. The scenery changes from moment to moment as the company's fleet of modern ships, journeying 1,250 miles between Bergen and Kirkenes, make 34 port calls – from small fishing villages in the rugged Lofoten Islands and the ancient Viking capital of Trondheim to Tromso, Norway's "Paris of the North.”

Theme Voyages – in response to greater demand by more travelers seeking unusual and educational experiences to bring home with them, Hurtigruten has created an expanded roster of unique and fascinating possibilities for 2011.

· “Hall of the Mountain King” is a classic voyage that immerses passengers in the music and background of Edvard Grieg, Norway’s best-known classical composer, with a program of captivating on board lectures and piano recitals – Oct. 14, 2011.

· “The Ice-Breakers” delves deep into the history of the polar explorers, their voyages and the culture and inhabitants of the Polar Regions; lectures and optional excursions ranging from a Viking feast to the Polaria Centre enrich the experience – Oct. 11, 2011.

Excursions – The dozens of exciting and unique excursion opportunities, lasting from a few hours to three days, are an important feature of Hurtigruten’s cruises. Port excursions range from charming city walks in Trondheim, Alesund and Bergen to the remarkable "Lofotr Viking Feast" – a traditional Viking feast with homebrewed mead, held in the largest Viking building ever found – to the simply fun "Dog Sledding in Tromso" and "Scootertrip in Lapland." The “Polar History Walk” Tromso” highlights this medieval town’s links with polar explorations; amid flickering lights, the elegant church in Tromso is the setting for the “Midnight Concert in the Arctic”; a short drive through Kirkenes brings guests to the Gabba Reindeer Park and a visit to the snow hotel on the “Kirkenes Snow Hotel” trip; and the “UNESCO Islands” explores The Vega archipelago, consisting of 6,000 islands and islets where guests visit the E-house and touch down on Vega. take the train from Bergen to Voss, a boat to Flam and a train to Myrdal on "Norway in a Nutshell"; and visit the mining town of Roros, a UNESCO World Heritage site. Paul Gauguin Cruises to Host Digital Photo Workshop

New York, NY, Oct 12: Paul Gauguin Cruises, operator of the highest-rated and longest continually sailing luxury cruise ship in the South Pacific, the m/s Paul Gauguin, has been chosen to host the 10th Annual Digital Photography Workshop Cruise, during which 20 photographers will spend two weeks capturing travel, nature and documentary images in the Marquesas, Tuamotus and Society Islands to be published in a fine arts book. The workshop, which embarks from Tahiti on April 16, 2011, will be conducted by Arthur Bleich, professional photographer and educator, along with Adrian Coakley, Illustrations Editor at National Geographic, and Tim McKenna, renowned outdoors photographer who has shot editorial and advertising images in French Polynesia for more than 15 years.

“We at Paul Gauguin Cruises are incredibly honored to welcome this fine group of photographers aboard The Gauguin. We look forward to sharing the majestic wonders of our South Pacific, and we are certain French Polynesia’s unrivaled beauty and culture will provide an endless source of artistic inspiration for this talented team,” comments Richard H. Bailey, President and CEO, Paul Gauguin Cruises.

Bleich has always been interested in a workshop book project in the South Pacific, but the logistics seemed daunting. “Our attendees are adventurous and talented, but roughing it isn’t their style. This is the perfect solution. After a challenging day of shooting, they can return to the m/s Paul Gauguin and unwind in luxurious surroundings. Suffering is not a prerequisite for creating great images.”

The workshop’s professional instructors have impressive backgrounds. Bleich has photographed for major magazines, was the official photographer for an Antarctic expedition and is a contributing editor at Rangefinder, the leading U.S. professional photography magazine. Coakley’s books at National Geographic have won international acclaim, and he is known for his impeccable taste in images. McKenna has done surfing and extreme-sports assignments in more than 30 countries in addition to documenting the beauty and culture of French Polynesia.

Photographers enrolled in the workshop will shoot onshore during the day and view their images during evening sessions. “In the past, this has been the most enjoyable and valuable part of the workshop,” says Bleich. “You’d be surprised at how quickly you can improve as a photographer when professionals give you instant feedback.” During the four days the ship is at sea, there will be lectures and demonstrations on technical and esthetic subjects. Toward the end of the cruise, all passengers aboard will be invited to a presentation at which the best images that have been shot will be shown. Attendees enrolled in previous workshop cruises have had their images published in magazines, on web sites and exhibited in shows. “Over the years we’ve developed some unique techniques to teach photographers to quickly grasp the key elements of ‘seeing’ which results in great pictures,” explains Bleich. The professionally designed coffee table book will showcase each photographer’s work and each attendee will receive a copy. Photographers who want to enroll in the workshop should visit: www.dpcorner.com/cruise or call 800-652-2267.

Additional themed sailings featured in 2011 include:

Gala President’s Cruises - Nov 6 & 21, 2010, and Jan 15, 2011

Her Majesty The Queen Names Cunard’s Newest Liner, Queen Elizabeth

Southampton, England, Oct 11: Continuing a grand royal tradition, Her Majesty The Queen officially named Cunard Line's newest ocean liner, Queen Elizabeth, today during a regal ceremony amongst a VIP audience of more than 1,500 guests, celebrities, and dignitaries.

“Today marks a milestone in British maritime history and the continuation of a longstanding tradition of Royal Namings of our Cunard Queens,” said Peter Shanks, president of Cunard Line. “Our grand celebration today reinforces Cunard’s renaissance as one of the oldest names in passenger shipping now operating the youngest fleet in the world.”

With a capacity of 2,068 guests and an estimated total cost $634 million, Queen Elizabeth features many unique Cunard traditions linking her with her sister ships and their predecessors, together with all the modern day luxuries Cunard’s guests have come to expect. From the outside, her distinctive black and red livery will hint at an experience that differentiates a Cunard liner from a modern-day cruise ship. This is most evident in the ship’s adherence to liner design traditions, with elegant double and triple height public rooms on a grand scale, luxuriously endowed with rich wood panelling, intricate mosaics, hand-woven carpets, gleaming chandeliers and cool marbles. Art Deco features pay homage to the original Queen Elizabeth, reflecting The New Golden Age of Ocean Travel. She will depart on her sold-out Maiden Voyage on 12 Oct 2010. Celebrity Cruises Adds New Flavor to Evening Casual Dining

MIAMI, Oct 11: As part of an ongoing commitment to offer premium vacation experiences based on guests’ tastes and preferences, Celebrity Cruises is revamping its evening offerings in its “lido,” or primary casual dining, venues. Transitioning away from a sit-down experience and moving toward an “international marketplace” approach featuring a flavorful lineup of food stations, the offerings will blend classic and contemporary cuisine inspired by the popularity of global culinary influences and an ever-increasing number of guests from around the world.

“Since the launch of our Solstice Class in 2008, our guests have shared a great deal of positive feedback about the flavors and variety offered in our marketplace-style Oceanview Café venues, so we are taking that concept to the rest of the fleet,” said Jacques Van Staden, Vice President, Culinary Operations. “We have created a menu that speaks to the tastes of our guests, who are intrigued by the culinary arts and a truly global range of flavors and cooking styles.”

The new evening casual dining service will present a flavorful array of authentic cuisine, including:

A made-to-order curry station featuring Indian staples such as raitha, papadums and paratha;
A full made-to-order pasta station enhanced with assorted breads and a salad bar;
Two fresh, made-to-order sushi stations; two made-to-order stir-fry stations featuring Asian-inspired ingredients and preparation;
A Mediterranean-inspired lineup of antipasti, olives, cheeses and assorted cold meats;
A carving station, grilled meats such as pork chops, New York strip steak, and chicken breast, and grilled fish;
Multiple fresh vegetables, a “loaded” baked potato station, and a variety of sauces such as béarnaise and gravies;
A  made-to-order pizza station open until 12:30 am, that features fresh garlic bread and antipasti items; and
vTwo dessert stations.

This change is another testament to the popularity of Celebrity’s Solstice Class ships. Earlier this year, Celebrity announced that it would “Solsticize,” or retrofit, its Millennium Class ships with some of the most compelling features found on the Solstice Class ships.

Celebrity’s evening lido dining service will begin at 6 pm each evening. Celebrity Century, Celebrity Constellation, Celebrity Infinity, Celebrity Millennium and Celebrity Summit will transition to the new service by the end of October. Celebrity will no longer offer tableside service in a traditional “sit-down” style during its evening casual dining service. The changes will not affect Celebrity Xpedition, the 92-guest megayacht sailing year-round in the Galapagos Islands.

More information about all of Celebrity’s casual dining offerings, including poolside grills and more, is available at www.celebritycruises.com/CasualDining. For more information, call your travel agent, dial 1-800-437-3111 or visit www.celebritycruises.com.

Princess Cruises Ships Begin Plugging into Shore Power in San Francisco

SANTA CLARITA, CA, Oct 7: Island Princess helped inaugurate the Port of San Francisco’s new shore power facility by “plugging in” to electric power from shore yesterday. The new shore power technology at the Port of San Francisco cruise ship terminal enables Princess Cruises’ ships, and other equipped vessels, to use power from the city’s grid instead of the engines to power the ship’s onboard services--reducing emissions when docked in San Francisco. The port becomes the fourth in the world where Princess Cruises’ ships can take advantage of this innovative technology. The new shore power installation in San Francisco is a cooperative effort by the Port of San Francisco, San Francisco Public Utilities Commission, the Bay Area Air Quality Management District, the Environmental Protection Agency, Holland America Line and Princess Cruises.

“We know that local air quality is an important issue in the Bay Area, so we’re pleased to join with the port to debut this important environmental initiative,” said Dean Brown, Princess Cruises’ executive vice president. “Our commitment to shore power technology began nearly 10 years ago, and we’re very pleased we can now ‘plug in’ our ships in San Francisco.”

Princess’ shore power program made history when it debuted in Juneau, Alaska in 2001. It expanded to Seattle in 2005, and then to Vancouver in 2009. Shore power connections are planned to roll out in other ports that have made commitments to the technology, including Los Angeles and San Diego. Currently nine of the line’s ships are outfitted with the capability to “plug in” to a shoreside power source, representing an investment for Princess of nearly $7 million in equipment alone.

To create this unique power system, also known as “cold ironing,” Princess has outfitted its ships with custom-built connection cabinets that join the ship’s electrical network to the local electric system ashore. The electric power is transmitted from a landside transformer to the vessel via four 3½-inch diameter flexible cables. The actual cable connection on a vessel is a traditional, though quite large, plug and socket. The length of time needed to connect a ship to shore power and shut down the vessel’s diesel generators is approximately 40 minutes. Once connected, the ship’s engines are powered down and, simultaneously, the necessary amount of power is delivered to run the ship’s services while in port.

The Princess ships currently equipped with shore power technology include:

-- Coral Princess
-- Dawn Princess
-- Diamond Princess
-- Golden Princess
-- Island Princess
-- Sapphire Princess
-- Sea Princess
-- Star Princess
-- Sun Princess

The Yachts of Seabourn Publishes Sustainability Report

MIAMI, Oct 6: Luxury cruise operator The Yachts of Seabourn has published a report on the company’s sustainability performance in fiscal 2009.

“Our company is in the midst of a substantial expansion in our operations,” said Pamela C. Conover, Seabourn’s President and CEO. “During this period, when we are measuring the progress of our business in a number of ways, we also wanted to ensure that we are growing in a way that is sustainable,” she continued.

Seabourn’s sustainability report comprises the measured results of Seabourn’s activities between Dec 1, 2008, and Nov 30, 2009, relating to 23 different performance indicators defined by the Global Reporting Index (GRI). Seabourn reported on the areas of Environment, Labor, Human Rights, Society, Product Responsibility, and Economic Impact. The 58-page report is published as an online document in pdf-format, and is available for viewing or download on the company’s website at www.seabourn.com.

Seabourn’s development includes launching three new, ultra luxury vessels by June 2011. The sister yachts are being built by T. Mariotti S.p.A. of Genoa, Italy. Seabourn Odyssey debuted in June 2009 and Seabourn Sojourn launched in June 2010. The third, Seabourn Quest, will debut in June 2011. Virtually identical from stem to stern, Seabourn’s new-builds are designed to meet or exceed the standards of the RINA “Green Ship” certification. Enhanced systems such as fan-cooled air conditioning systems, Advanced Wastewater Treatment equipment and water-lubricated Thorsen bearings are employed to assist in reducing the impact of its fleet. Seabourn is currently the only cruise line utilizing bio-filters to eliminate oil from bilgewater. The very size of its ships creates less impact, and enables delivery of the highly personalized experience that is a hallmark of the brand. Each 32,000-GRT vessel will accommodate 450 guests in 225 luxury suites, 90 percent of which will be outfitted with verandas. Combined, the three additions will increase Seabourn’s fleet capacity by more than 200 percent from 624 in 2008 to 1,974 berths in 2011.

The company has for years contributed its environmental data as a part of the corporate compliance initiative of its parent, Carnival Corporation & plc. However this is the first report that outlines these indicators for the Seabourn operating brand alone. Carnival Corporation & plc is widely recognized as a leader in the field of environmental and sustainable development, being listed on the esteemed FTSE4Good index of the FTSE Group, the Maplecroft Climate Innovation Leaders Index, as well as the Carbon Disclosure Leadership Index. Seabourn itself has developed an internal environmental management system that has been independently certified as fully compliant with the International Standards ISO 140001. Princess Cruises Launches Blog Featuring the Ultimate Travel Bucket List

SANTA CLARITA, CA, Oct. 5: Princess Cruises today launched a new blog that will reveal the top travel bucket list experiences recommended by the line’s own well-traveled destination experts. “50 Essential Experiences: The Travel Bucket List” (www.50essentialexperiences.com) will be gradually unveiled over the next year in a series of weekly posts, each authored by one of Princess’ longest-serving shipboard and shoreside employees.

The 50 selected experts – each who have been with the company for more than 15 years and traveled thousands of sea and air miles visiting hundreds of countries, cities and sites – will share one of their inspiring experiences chronicling their unique perspective of must-see travel spots around the globe. Each blog entry will be a personal story, and readers will also meet the expert through a “revealing” questionnaire.

“Few people have seen more of the world than Princess' own destination experts,” said Jan Swartz, executive vice president for Princess Cruises. “And because they’ve been to so many destinations, they’re often asked to recommend those ‘don’t miss’ experiences that people should be sure to put on their travel bucket list.” Swartz emphasized that the blog is not just a list of places, but instead a list of experiences Princess hopes inspires others.

The experts featured in the blog will represent an array of departments and positions within Princess, including those in shoreside positions such as itinerary planning, ship operations and marketing, along with those who sail aboard its ships such as captains, hotel managers and cruise directors. Their posts will gradually be revealed through September 2011.

Crystal Morgan, director of market planning for Princess Cruises, authored the first blog post. She started her cruise career as an onboard shore excursion manager sailing to worldwide destinations and, after moving shoreside, now oversees itinerary planning for the line’s fleet of ships. Morgan shares one of her most memorable travel experiences, when she traced her grandmother’s footsteps to visit the famous Christ the Redeemer statue, the most celebrated monument in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, a place that held a special meaning for her grandmother who had visited the site some 70 years earlier. In her post she writes, “I didn’t hear about my grandmother’s visit to this famous statue until I told her that I was being deployed to South America aboard Pacific Princess. It dawned on me that I would have the opportunity to trace her footsteps to this world-renowned landmark so many decades after her visit. Our circumstances could hardly be more different. She was barely a teenager on her journey up the mountain, traveling with her family, including several younger siblings for whom she cared. I would have charges of my own, but not children.”

Blog visitors will be encouraged to share their own essential experiences, and a different reader experience will be selected and showcased each week. All of the destinations described in the blog will be ones that passengers can travel to aboard a Princess ship, and links will help readers discover how they, too, can embark on similar adventures. Additional information about Princess Cruises is available through a professional travel agent, by calling 1-800-PRINCESS, or by visiting the company's website at www.princess.com.

100 is Perfect in Any Language

FORT LAUDERDALE, FL, Oct 5: Health Canada made a surprise inspection of MSC Poesia during her recent maiden-call in Quebec where she received a perfect score of 100 after the rigorous examination during her inaugural sanitation inspection. The inspection team from the Workplace Health and Public Safety Program (WHPSP), the Canadian equivalent to the U.S. Public Health Service (USPHS), said the 100-point score was awarded because of the outstanding state of sanitation, safe food handling, and the general high level of understanding and compliance in the areas of food, water, air and general hygiene onboard MSC Poesia.

Health Canada officers conducted intense inspections of the food provisioning, storage and preparation areas, the ship’s laundry, bars, self-serve buffets, restaurants, warewashing machinery, room service operations, medical and children’s centers, as well as its Integrated Pest Management Program, waste management, housekeeping and public area cleanliness, recreational and potable water protection and supply system, air purity controls, and the ship’s general procedures to prevent or control illnesses.

Over the years, MSC Cruises’ ships sailing in Caribbean waters have consistently earned “Superior” scores on USPH inspections. The last 100-point score for a ship in the Caribbean was earned on the MSC Poesia in May. She earned several during the past Caribbean season.

MSC Cruises practices this policy of going above and beyond daily. One example of MSC’s detailed approach to cleanliness involves crew members who empty, disassemble, clean, and sanitize every ice machine, 60 per ship, on all of our 11 ships weekly.

Richard E. Sasso, president and CEO of MSC Cruises (USA), said, “Why do we perform so well on these inspections? It’s our corporate philosophy to be the most responsible we can be in both safety and environment.”

SANTA CLARITA, CA, Oct 1: Princess Cruises is marking the end of the Alaska season with shipboard awards ceremonies celebrating the year’s top-rated local tour operators. The line’s 11th annual C.R.U.I.S.E. service awards used passenger feedback throughout the season to determine the best shore excursion experiences and guides in each port on Alaska itineraries.
