Queen Mary 2 — Follow Her Progress

Countdown to QM2
Issue 3 -- March 2003

Interactive in-cabin TV
It is only fitting that the most advanced passenger ship in the world will feature a state-of-the-art, digital interactive entertainment system.

Upon embarking QM2 and entering their suite or stateroom, passengers will receive a personalized welcome on their TV screen, and then will be prompted to enter a PIN code to access a host of features.

The menu includes, but is not limited to, sending and receiving e-mail, viewing port information and signing up for sightseeing tours, ordering room service, ordering and viewing movies, setting wake-up calls, listening to music selections from the ship’s library, browsing and making purchases from shipboard boutiques, viewing daily restaurant menus and ordering wine and reviewing their shipboard account.

RADA actors to star on QM2
Passengers will be able to see the stars of tomorrow today on Queen Mary 2. The Royal Academy of Dramatic Art (RADA), Britain’s premier acting school, has agreed to provide a company of actors, who are graduates or students of RADA, to perform on QM2. RADA will also offer a variety of readings and workshops, including acting classes.

RADA is one of the foremost acting training programmes in the world. Some well-known graduates include Sir John Gielgud, Vivien Leigh, Anthony Hopkins, Joan Collins, Glenda Jackson, Peter O’Toole, Kenneth Branagh and Ralph Fiennes.

Cunard's famous funnel
The funnel was installed on QM2 March 12, 2003. The remaining or top-most portion cannot be put in place until after the ship is floated out of its construction dock as the vessel would be too tall to clear the large gantry crane.

New Chef’s Galley restaurant
QM2 will be the first ship to debut a “Chef’s Galley,” whereby guests are taught by the chef how to prepare their meal just prior to dining.

The unique new restaurant will feature both Cunard chefs and guest appearances by world-famous chefs sponsored by Gourmet magazine.

Chef’s Galley will be located in the ship’s innovative Kings Court dining pavilion. There will be a mirrored workstation so that diners can observe the meal preparation before partaking in the fruits of the chef’s labours.
