Saint Nazaire,
France
At 6 am on March 21, 2003, the luxury liner Queen
Mary 2 (QM2) entered open water for the first time as
she was floated out from her building dock to a
finishing basin at the Alstom Chantiers shipyard here.
This milestone signifies the final stages of
construction for Cunard Lines flagship, which is
scheduled to enter service in January 2004 as the first
luxury liner to be built in over 30 years.
