Zuiderdam
January 10, 2004
Eastern Caribbean Itinerary

by Bill Kollner

My wife and I wanted to take a vacation, but we did not know if we would be off from work for a week.  On Friday, January 9, 2004 I booked a cruise for Saturday January 10, 2004 on Holland America's Vista class ship, the Zuiderdam.  Since we live in St. Petersburg Florida, it is an easy drive to Fort Lauderdale. After checking in at the port and receiving our documents, we were happy to learn we were upgraded to AA level deluxe balcony. This was the quickest check-in in the twelve cruises we have taken on various lines.  Needless to say, we walked immediately on board, went to our cabin, and got our bags in twenty minutes. After unpacking, we went up to the Lido deck for a buffet lunch. I was surprised to see an Italian station, a sandwich station, an Asian station, a regular buffet station, and of course a desert area. All the food was great after hearing other passengers comments.

I could write volumes on how terrific this ship and cruise was. The food was great all over the ship, including the dining room and the Lido buffet. After dinner, (late seating, table for two), we went to the show. On other cruise lines, the entertainment is usually mixed with one or two good shows.  Every show was wonderful. There was more comedy and I would pay to see these people at home. Everything flowed so smoothly during the entire cruise. The staff tried to make you feel special. My wife's highlight was when we were asked to eat at the captain's table Thursday night. Mine was when I won the lowest jackpot of $27.00 on slots. I thought it was $1027.00, so I guess you can't have everything.

The ports of St. Thomas, Tortola, Nassau and their Island were all fun. This was the best cruise we have ever taken. Now we are spoiled and have to have balcony's on our next cruise. Holland America should be proud of the Captain, the crew and the new Vista Class ship, the Zuiderdam. We would recommend this ship and line for anyone who wants a great time.
