Caribbean Princess
December 2007

by Denise Dernorsek

Caribbean PrincessI took my first Princess lines cruise recently on Caribbean Princess. Perhaps I've been spoiled by Royal Caribbean, but I found this experience sadly lacking. There were some positives, such as the embarkation, safety drill and debarkation processes, but for the most part Princess came up short.

We had a balcony room which showed a really deplorable use of space--huge closet area but a bathroom you could just about turn around in. Our room steward was very pleasant but totally inefficient. We used the bottled water the first day and never saw another bottle. We also had to ask several times for everything we needed, such as extra towels. It took us 3 days to get them. And, although I realize this is a little frippery, there were no towel animals for us, something that, while not necessary, certainly makes one feel good.

We also noticed what seemed to be a lack of staff in the bars and lounges and the staff that was on hand seemed to be very unhappy and overworked. The entertainment was decent but not what I am accustomed to. As I said before I've obviously been spoiled by Royal Caribbean. I must interject here that the dining room staff were excellent. We couldn't have asked for better.

I do have to say, however, that I would hesitate to sail with Princess again. Overall it was not the experience to which I have become accustomed and I'll be going back to Royal Caribbean next time, thank you very much!
