Norwegian Getaway, first to enter service in 2014 |
New Cruise Ships for 2014
Watch Throughout the Year for These New Cruise Ship Launches
January 2014: While the cruise ships scheduled for launch in 2014 are all new vessels, some are almost identical to existing sister-ships (for instance, Norwegian Cruise Line’s Norwegian Getaway and Princess Cruises’ Regal Princess). Brand-new in design and first in the Quantum-class will be Royal Caribbean’s Quantum of the Seas.
Whether they are an all new design or not, the introduction of a new ship into a cruise line's fleet is always exciting. Without further ado, Cruise Diva is happy to preview the ocean-going Class of 2014.
2014 New Ship Launches:
- Norwegian Getaway—Following the successful launch of sister-ship Norwegian Breakaway in 2013, Norwegian Getaway has most of the same features, such as a multi-deck sports complex, an outdoor promenade with dining and bar venues, and more than 20 restaurants and bars. The 146,600-ton, 4,028-passenger ship will call Miami home year-round and feature some Miami-themed spaces as well as tropical-inspired art. The hull art, featuring mermaids and pelicans, was designed by pop artist David "LEBO" Le Batard. Launch date: January 2014
- Regal Princess—Very similar to Royal Princess, which also launched last year, the 141,000 ton, 3,600 passenger Regal Princess has a lot of appeal for Princess traditionalists. New for the class is the cantilevered SeaWalk that extends 28 feet beyond the ship's edge (and 128 feet over the water), private rental poolside cabanas in the Sanctuary and alongside an adults-only pool, a pastry shop in the buffet restaurant, and an enlarged Piazza. Other new features exclusive to Regal Princess that we have heard rumors about, but which are not on the published deck plan at this time, are an aft pool and a promenade deck extending the the full length of the ship.
Launch date: May 2014
- Quantum of the Seas—Royal Caribbean's highly anticipated new Quantum-class of ships is launching this year with some unique features, such as the first skydiving simulator at sea, bumper cars, and the "North Star" glass capsule that can rise above the ship to offer 360-degree sea views. Also new is Two70, a multi-deck and multi-function space with floor-to-ceiling windows that will feature live and digital entertainment at night, including aerialists and video screens. Launch date: November 2014
