Norwegian Sun Cruise ReviewNorwegian Sun
Western Caribbean
January 2004

by Julie and Brian Wawryk

First of all, let me just say this cruise was the best trip my husband and I have ever experienced. We read reviews prior to leaving and, as we travel a lot, we were used to the pettiness of picky people and ignored the bad reviews. We were quite pleased with everything on board. I cannot believe the number of people who complain about every little thing... you are on vacation, so just relax.

Anyway, the ship was beautiful. We had an inside stateroom and it was a decent size with plenty of storage space. I think the next cruise we book we might get a balcony just because I love to watch the ocean so much. All accommodations on board were very clean and eye appealing. We were on Deck 10 right by the elevators and stairs and so that was awesome as we just walked up one flight of stairs to the pool.

The food was fabulous. We had dinner at Il Adagio and Pacific Heights which were good, but I wouldn't say above the food at Four Seasons and Seven Seas which you didn't have to pay at. On Friday night there were lobster tails and filet mignon as offered for entrées and my husband and I had both!!! We ordered the filet mignon with the lobster tails on the side, it was great. We never had a bad meal, even the Garden Cafe was great food even though it was a buffet. The only thing was their eggs were a bit mushy at breakfast but that's ok, I just didn't have any. There were plenty of other things to chose from. We loved the Garden Cafe as you could sit outside and eat if you wanted and it was nice to look out at the ocean.

The entertainment was good--we had a comedian, magician, musicals, dancing, a bit of everything and we usually got great seats if we went 20 minutes to a 1/2 hour early. They also had games an hour before the entertainment, such as Newlywed Game, Millionaire Game, Weakest Link, etc. Every night when you go to your room there is a Freestyle brochure listing everything you can possibly do on the ship from 6:00 a.m. to 3:00 a.m. It's crazy how much there is to do, and you can't possible get everything in.

The ports were great, Jamaica was HOT HOT HOT--we just walked around a bit and then went back to the ship to take in the sun and have ice cream from Sprinkles of course. That was awesome. Grand Cayman is beautiful and we went on the Discover Cayman tour, through George Town to Turtle Island and Hell. It was good. Costa Maya we went on a mountain bike and kayak tour, it was fun. And in Cozumel we went on the Atlantis Submarine 105 feet under water. That was amazing, a whole world down there we don't know about, like Finding Nemo!!!

We didn't get to bed before 1:30 a.m. almost every night except Wednesday and we were always up by at least 9:00 a.m. We made sure we took some time to just soak up the sun on the ship every day. While we in ports, it was great because the ship is over half empty--on the days at sea you need to get to the pool by 10:00 a.m. or it will be hard to find a chair.

All in all A FANTASTIC TRIP I recommend highly. The staff on board the Norwegian Sun were the greatest--I have never had such awesome service. I will definitely be cruising Norwegian again. For all you out there reading the bad reviews, unless your picky and like to complain, ignore them, you'll have a BLAST.
