Updated News from the Port of Vancouver

Update as of 12 p.m. Saturday, September 15

Port Vancouver remains open for business and cargo and passengers continue to move.

Security at the port remains heightened.

Holland America's Westerdam and Zaandam, Celebrity's Infinity, Princess Cruises' Dawn Princess and Royal Caribbean International's Radiance of the Seas are in port today.

The Zaandam, the Dawn Princess and the Radiance of the Seas are expected to sail today.

If you are expecting to pick up any cruise passengers, please expect delays as well as limited access. Ship sailings will be delayed to allow arrived passengers enough time for security to embark. If you are an arriving passenger, please arrive no earlier than 12 p.m. Check in the for Zaandam and the Radiance of the Seas is at the Ballroom at the Vancouver Convention and Exhibition Centre from noon onwards while check in for the Dawn Princess is at Ballantyne Pier from noon onwards.

For information on the Zaandam, the Radiance of the Seas and the Infinity only, please call Worldwide Shore Services at (604) 683-5776. Please note that the sailing of Celebrity Cruises' Infinity was cancelled by Celebrity Cruises. Arriving passengers for the Infinity were accommodated on the Mercury. The sailing of the Westerdam on Thursday, September 13 was cancelled by Holland America.

Additionally, I have been advised of the following in email by Phil of Seacruise:

Well I went to Vancouver and visited the Port of Vancouver. Canada Place has its first ship at the new dock, it is the Westerdam. So Canada Place has 3 ships which means it is NUTS there. The Zaandam and Radiance of the Seas had not cleared customs as of 11:00 AM.

I visited Ballantyne and Dawn Princess was docked and she had cleared customs and people were boarding busses.

The Infinity was also docked at Ballantyne as well and is being used as a hotel. There were lots of passengers walking around from the Infinity.

Now something to be aware of is that it appears they are NOT taking ANY passengers under Bond from the ship to the US Border. This means that ALL passengers must now clear Canada Customs, which means ships will take longer to clear. I was able to get down under Canada place and have a look at the bus compound to the bond area and it was empty and locked.

Tomorrow is really going to be nuts because there will be 6 ships in port. I have not seen 6 ships in here in years and it will be interesting to see where they put them.

I sent this information along as Celebrity's own web page says the Infinity sailed at 10 PM last night--yes it sailed, but from Canada Place to Ballantyne.
