Sailing - A Day at Sea

May 2, 2002 - Surely one of life's greatest pleasures is awakening to a day at sea. The sight of gentle patterns on the ceiling created by the sunlight's reflection off the water beckoned us to arise for a leisurely breakfast.

Sails overhead, a gentle breeze, and warm sunshine. Who could ask for more?

Diversions? Perhaps a few turns around the deck or on the treadmill? An exercise class, Personal Training, or health and beauty seminar? The Blackjack Tournament or Art Auction? Shopping in the Signature Shop or web surfing in the Internet Cafe? Our fellow Wind Surf passengers don't seem to mind a bit that there is no Bingo or pool games. We're doing what we wish and many of us seem to have chosen our favorite deck chairs for similar activities... reading, needlework, napping. Wind Surf is a social ship and conversations spring up poolside and in the hot tubs--a very popular spot today.

At sea, WIND SURF in her natural element.

But wait, there's more! The most difficult decision of the day loomed before me. Lunch. Did I have room for a third lobster tail? Grilled lobster on deck... the very height of decadence. Yes, I had room for three sweet, juicy lobster tails, followed by a serving of Windstar's renowned Bread Pudding and a complimentary Cappuccino. The food on our cruise has been delicious. It goes without saying that the service by the Filipino wait staff has been warm and attentive.

Wind Surf's Wind Spa raises the level of shipboard pampering to new heights. Mind you, relatively speaking, this is a very small vessel at less than 15,000 GRT. However, the spa is huge and the Steiner staff offers every kind of relaxing pleasure imaginable. I wish I had time to try all the treatments... most sound absolutely heavenly. Aromaspa Ocean Wrap, Oxygen Lifting Facial, Ionithermie Algae Detox, and Absolute Face & Body Treatment. Not to mention simpler sounding favorites that are just as soothing--Swedish Massage, Reflexology, and Foot & Ankle Massage (to name just a few).

As the day winds down, I can state with certainty that I want to do this again and again... I've never felt so carefree and relaxed.

Ibiza, with the greatest concentration of nightclubs in Europe awaits our inspection tomorrow. It's probably a good thing we're so rested and refreshed.
