Carnival to Resume Printed Fleet Brochures Based on Carnival Conversations Feedback

MIAMI, Sept 30: For the first time in five years, Carnival Cruise Lines will offer travel agents a printed fleet brochure to use in their sales and marketing materials. The new brochure, which will be available prior to the 2014 Wave Season, comes as a result of feedback from travel agents during various Carnival Conversations events, as well as more specific feedback received from the line’s recent Quarterly Travel Agent Survey.

“Travel agents have told us loud and clear that they want a printed brochure to use for sales and marketing purposes and we’re thrilled to introduce one that is customized with the information that matters most to them,” said Mike Julius, Carnival’s senior managing director of U.S. trade sales. “We greatly appreciate the valuable input we received from travel agents through our quarterly survey and we’re putting that feedback directly to work in the form of this new brochure.”

More than 1,700 travel agents responded to the on-line survey, which was comprised of 63 questions related to overall trade relations, pricing and specific needs in a brochure. Travel agents were asked to rank 31 items that they would be interested in seeing within a printed brochure. Items agents listed of top importance, in order of priority, included:

· Detailed itineraries by destination
· Message to consumers regarding the value of using a travel agent
· Deck plans
· Ship overviews and onboard highlights
· Stateroom descriptions and diagrams
· Information on family programming and activities
· Guest FAQ regarding dining, dress code, documentation and more
· Stateroom photos
· An At-a-Glance Ship Deployment Grid featuring information organized according to region, itinerary, and season

Carnival’s new brochure will feature all items listed in agents’ top priority list. Travel agents may pre-order the new brochure beginning Nov. 15 and initial orders will ship prior to Jan. 1, 2014 to prepare agents for Wave Season.

American Queen Steamboat Company Celebrates River Traditions with
2013 Old Fashioned Holidays Voyages

MEMPHIS, TN, Sept. 30: “ ‘Tis the season” and “deck the halls” aboard the largest, most opulent riverboat in the world on the mighty Mississippi River. The American Queen Steamboat Company is stuffing stockings and celebrating classic Cajun and Creole traditions of the antebellum south. Three Old Fashioned Holidays on the American Queen have limited availability remaining with sailings from New Orleans roundtrip or between New Orleans and Memphis, Tenn.

“This December guests on the American Queen will be immersed in Lower Mississippi holiday traditions celebrated by generations,” shares American Queen Steamboat Company President & COO Ted Sykes. “We look forward to sharing these many traditions in luxurious fashion and creating lasting memories all will enjoy.”

Holiday itineraries offer guests authentic experiences including the old Louisiana tradition of bonfires on the levees, special Christmas shows in the Grand Saloon, door-decorating contests, the reading of the Cajun Night Before Christmas and nationally renowned Mississippi woodcarver Jim Moore carving a Victorian Santa onboard. Seasonal culinary delights and decadent desserts including a Creole Réveillon Christmas Dinner, prepared by Culinary Director Regina Charboneau’s team, as well as a shore side Cajun deep fried turkey cooking demonstration will be among the tasty highlights.

Voyages in 2013 are the following:

· The 9-day Old Fashioned Holidays voyage begins in Memphis, Tenn. to New Orleans on Dec. 6 and an upriver voyage is available from New Orleans to Memphis, Tenn. beginning Dec. 20 with itineraries calling on favorites including Vicksburg, Miss.; Natchez, Miss.; and Helena, Ark.

· One special 9-night New Orleans roundtrip Old Fashioned Holidays voyage departs Dec. 13, featuring the ports of Oak Alley, La.; St. Francisville, La.; Houmas House, La; Natchez, Miss.; and Baton Rouge, La.

The culinary highlight of each sailing, the typical Réveillon menu served in homes along the Mississippi River or the fine restaurants of New Orleans’ French Quarter included Daube glace or veal grillades, egg dishes, breads, puddings and often included turtle soup and oysters. Naturally there was always an abundance of wines, cordials and fortified drinks. Eventually this tradition slowly began to disappear like many classic holiday traditions on the river. As the Réveillon is revived on the American Queen steamboat, Chef Charboneau’s menu will include Sazerac and Champagne Cocktails, Tomato Aspic with Fried Oysters, Deviled Eggs with Lump Crabmeat and Caviar, Pheasant Gumbo, Pork Grillades over Savory Grits, Almond Tarts and Bouche Noel. This festive dinner will be re-created in the J.M White Dining Room.

Offering the most inclusive river cruise experience in North America, 9-day Old Fashioned Holidays journeys include a one-night pre-voyage hotel stay, shore tours in all ports, complimentary wine and beer with dinner and a host of other amenities. For additional information, visit aqsc.com.

Cunard Flagship Queen Mary 2 Goes on Mid-Atlantic Mercy Mission to Aid Solo Lady Rower

Sept 26: Cunard flagship Queen Mary 2 lent a helping hand to a Canadian rower, Mylène Paquette, in the mid-Atlantic today. Mylène is aiming to become the first North American woman to row solo across the Atlantic, a total of 2,700 nautical miles. Queen Mary 2, which left New York on Sunday, Sept 22nd on a 7-night Transatlantic Crossing to Southampton, England, received the request to assist yesterday and prepared a package of essential supplies overnight as the ship headed out to help.

The rendezvous with Mylène's boat occurred at 46 degrees 49.9 minutes North, 034 degrees 53.1 minutes West at 1300 hours U.K. time. Queen Mary 2 greeted her with three blasts from the ship's whistle and then slowly circled the boat at 10 knots to calm the water before four watertight canisters containing the supplies were dropped into the sea and collected by Mylène. There were cheers from the passengers who lined Queen Mary 2's rails as the ship's whistle sounded many times more. Mylène spoke with the ship via VHF radio and this was relayed to the passengers by the ship's Public Address system.

“We are happy to have given assistance to Mylène and help her recover from the damage inflicted by the storm,” said Captain Kevin Oprey, master of Queen Mary 2. “We wish her the very best of luck with her solo Atlantic rowing adventure.”

Having set out from Halifax, Canada, on July 6, 2013 for Lorient, France, Mylène had been hit by the remnants of Atlantic Storm Humberto and had lost her anchor and a satellite phone, among other supplies. In response, Queen Mary 2 has donated to Mylène a new satellite phone and two drogue anchors which the ship's crew prepared on board overnight. The drogue anchors hold the boat's position when it is not being rowed.

After 83 days alone in her boat and with about two months still to go, Mylène was also supplied with fresh fruit and vegetables, bread, pastries, muesli, crackers, chocolate, plus bottled water and coffee, English tea, mint tea and hot chocolate sachets. In addition, the ship supplied a scraper to remove the barnacles underneath the boat, duct tape, soap, shampoo and body lotion. Plus, postcards of Queen Mary 2!

“This is a dream come true!”, said Mylène. “For me to see Queen Mary 2 in the middle of the Atlantic is something I would have never hoped for. I want to thank all of the members of the crew for making this encounter happen."

For more information about Queen Mary 2 visit cunard.com.

P&O Cruises Confirms 2015 Call at Banana Coast, Honduras

MIAMI, Sept. 25: P&O Cruises' Adonia has scheduled a call at Banana Coast Feb. 27, 2015. P&O is the fourth cruise line to commit to first-season calls at the western Caribbean's newest cruise destination. Built in 2001 and described as "reassuringly British," the 710-passenger Adonia is the line's smallest ship, and is reserved exclusively for adults. P&O Cruises is considered the oldest cruise line in operation, tracing its roots back more than 175 years to the Peninsular Steam Navigation Co. in 1837.

"We are very excited the Banana Coast will feature in our new Caribbean, Central and South America fly-cruise program on Adonia, launching in spring 2015," said Christopher Edgington, P&O Cruises marketing director. "We think our passengers will love visiting the lesser-frequented, smaller and more intimate Caribbean destinations such as Trujillo and enjoy everything the Banana Coast has to offer."

Banana Coast features diverse retail shopping and 10 acres of beachfront right in the colonial town of Trujillo, Honduras, which was established in 1525. An array of shore excursions highlights the region's Spanish colonial heritage and lush tropical setting with cultural, historical, soft-adventure and eco-tour shore excursions.

Holland America Line was the first cruise company to schedule a series of port calls at Banana Coast, beginning in November 2014. Two luxury cruise operators also have slated calls in December 2014 and March 2015. For more information about Banana Coast, visit bananacoast.com.

Princess Cruises & Holland America Line donate $1 million to University of Alaska Foundation

ANCHORAGE, Alaska, Sept. 24: Princess Cruises and Holland America Line have joined forces to donate $1 million to the University of Alaska Foundation. The gift will provide funding in three main areas: research and education critical to the health of the sea; training programs that prepare Alaskans for the tourism and hospitality industry; and scholarships that support Alaskans seeking higher education at the University of Alaska. Alaska Gov. Sean Parnell made the announcement and officiated the check presentation at an Anchorage Downtown Rotary luncheon meeting.

"This very thoughtful gift is a shining example of how a major private industry in Alaska and the University of Alaska can work together as partners for the benefit of Alaskans across the state," said University of Alaska President Pat Gamble. "The reach of this donation is impressive and will leave an indelible mark on the lives of many UA researchers and students."

Princess Cruises and Holland America Line, the two largest tour operators in Alaska, approached the University this spring with a desire to collaborate with the Foundation in a way that bolstered the state's tourism industry. Together, the two lines employ nearly 3,500 people during the summer season and support more than 1,000 businesses in Alaska.

While details are still being solidified, the $1 million commitment by the cruise lines will fund several areas including an oceanographic research vessel, marine education, a renovation of the current culinary and hospitality training facilities, and scholarships aimed at those wishing to pursue technical, business, and hospitality degrees. The donation builds upon previous gifts by both cruise lines. In 2009, Princess Cruises donated $100,000 to the university's Marine Advisory Program (MAP). The gift provided salary and administrative support for MAP agents to help coastal residents use, conserve, and manage ocean resources that often provide the economic backbone of Alaska's coastal towns and villages.

"Princess Cruises is dedicated to environmental stewardship worldwide, and in particular, in Alaska," said Alan Buckelew, President and CEO, Princess Cruises. "This investment reflects our diligence on both land and sea in the more than 40 years of operating in the state."

In the early 1990s, Holland America Line donated $15,000 as seed money for a study that showed the need for a Culinary Arts & Hospitality program to support Alaska's burgeoning tourism business. Currently the program graduates an average of 40 students per academic year, but the industry could easily absorb double the amount, according to an Alaska Department of Labor forecast study in 2012. Since then, Holland America Line has donated more than $1 million to the University of Alaska to support various programs, including culinary arts and hospitality, food service, tourism education and the Museum of the North.

"We are pleased to join in providing this gift to the University of Alaska Foundation to help fund environmental, tourism and hospitality studies," said Stein Kruse, President and CEO, Holland America Line. "Tourism is Alaska's third largest economic driver, so it is very important to support the development of talent that will help us meet the workforce needs of the future."

Oceania Cruises Publishes Catalog of Its Renowned Onboard Art Collection

MIAMI, Sept 24: Oceania Cruises announced today the release of The Oceania Cruises Art Collection, a comprehensive catalogue of the art and artists featured in the world-class collection onboard Marina and Riviera. More than 2,000 works adorn the line’s award-winning mid-size ships. The 205-page book showcases in vibrant colors, images of the renowned works in the collection as well as artist biographies and the story of how Oceania Cruises founders Frank J. Del Rio and Bob Binder personally amassed the collection.

“Since the collection was unveiled, guests, art enthusiasts and critics have been requesting a catalogue of these provocative and eclectic works,” said Del Rio, who is chairman and CEO of Prestige Cruise Holdings, the parent company of Oceania Cruises. “The Oceania Cruises Art Collection not only showcases the artwork but also enhances appreciation by telling the stories of the artists, their passions and their inspiration.”

While most cruise lines hire a third party to curate decorative art for their ships, Del Rio and Binder traveled the world to acquire a museum-worthy art collection over a period of years. From masters like Picasso and Miró to the modern art of Robert Mars and Damien Hirst to emerging artists such as Li Domínguez Fong and Carlos Luna, the diverse collection spans eras and genres. In a nod to Del Rio’s Cuban heritage, the collection includes an impressive array of celebrated Cuban artists such as Wifredo Lam, Cundo Bermúdez and René Portocarrero.

“We weren’t just looking for background music with our onboard collection,” added Binder, who is vice chairman of Prestige Cruise Holdings. “We wanted pieces that were bold and interesting, pieces that made a statement, provoked conversation and inspired emotion.”

The Oceania Cruises Art Collection is available on Amazon.com and at OceaniaBookCollection.com. The catalogue will be available for purchase onboard Regatta by the end of September and the rest of the fleet by mid-November.

Royal Caribbean Begins Construction on Third Oasis-class Ship

MIAMI, Sept 23: Royal Caribbean International cut the first piece of steel today for its third Oasis-class ship, marking the first construction milestone for a vessel that, at approximately 227,700 GRT, will be the world’s largest and most innovative cruise ship. Royal Caribbean Cruises, Ltd.’s Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Richard D. Fain and Royal Caribbean International President and CEO, Adam Goldstein together with Laurent Castaing, chief executive officer, STX France, attended the event at the STX shipyard in Saint-Nazaire, France, where the ship will be built. The cruise line’s third Oasis-class ship is expected to be delivered in mid-2016.

“The Oasis-class ships have fundamentally changed the cruising landscape with the cornucopia of amenities and innovations that can be found onboard,” said Fain. “We are delighted to be offering a third Oasis-class vessel for our guests as well as to be back at STX France after such a long tradition of building amazing ships together.”

Oasis 3 joins sister-ships Oasis of the Seas and Allure of the Seas which took the cruise industry by storm with their introduction in 2009 and 2010, respectively, featuring a revolutionary design with a split superstructure and the cruise line’s neighborhood concept of seven distinct themed areas. At 225,282 GRT and spanning 16 decks with 2,700 staterooms, the Oasis class ships also introduced extraordinary “firsts” at sea such as an 82 foot-long zip line, a handcrafted carousel, the Rising Tide elevating bar, the AquaTheater high-diving performance venue, and the Central Park with more than 12,000 live trees and plants. The Oasis class also offers amenities that can only be found on Royal Caribbean, such as twin FlowRider surf simulators, cantilevered whirlpools, an ice-skating rink, the H2O Zone kids aquapark, and the Royal Promenade, an interior boulevard that stretches nearly the length of the ship and flanked by restaurants, lounges and boutiques, among many others.

“Our Oasis-class ships have led the charge in delivering the WOW for which Royal Caribbean is known,” said Goldstein. “We are delighted to get the building process underway and look forward to the next chapter of this amazing class of ships.”

Oasis of the Seas and Allure of the Seas sail weekly, alternating 7-night Eastern and Western Caribbean itineraries, from Port Everglades in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. In October 2014, Oasis of the Seas will sail a short autumn season in Europe from Barcelona, Spain before entering drydock for routine maintenance at the Képpel Verolme shipyard in Rotterdam, The Netherlands. Details of the third Oasis-class ship will be revealed in the coming months.

Carnival Cruise Lines Debuts New 'Moments That Matter' National Marketing Campaign

MIAMI, Sept 19: Carnival Cruise Lines is launching a new national advertising campaign next week that features the unforgettable and memorable vacation moments experienced every day by the cruise line’s millions of guests, as captured through their own lenses. The “Moments That Matter” campaign includes thousands of real vacation photos and videos from past Carnival cruisers, collected through social media. When Carnival put out the call, past guests submitted more than 30,000 pieces of “cruiser generated content,” ranging from small moments like lounging poolside to larger-than-life moments like marriage proposals, each reflecting people’s most treasured vacation memories.

“For more than 41 years, Carnival has been creating the backdrop for lasting vacation memories for more than 60 million guests and we know there is no one more qualified than them to tell the authentic story of what a Carnival cruise is truly like,” said Jim Berra, chief marketing officer for Carnival Cruise Lines. “This campaign features real guests of all backgrounds and ages having fun and making great memories together.”

The campaign is part of a fall marketing push by Carnival Cruise Lines to stimulate consumer interest in the brand. More than $25 million in total will be invested across broadcast, radio, digital and direct mail between September and December 2013, and, while that does not represent the brand’s total annual advertising spend, it is substantially higher than what the company normally invests during the fall time period. The campaign will continue during first quarter 2014, which is a critical reservations period for the cruise industry known as “wave season.” Within the call-to-action at the end of the spot, consumers are encouraged to contact their travel professional, part of the line’s ongoing effort to drive more traffic to its travel agent partners.

The new TV spots will debut on Monday, Sept 23, 2013, and will air on major primetime network shows and leading cable networks including Bravo, TNT, TLC, ABC Family, TBS and Food Network and online on Yahoo! and YouTube. The new TV spot can be viewed here.

The Nobel Peace Prize laureate will sail March 28 to April 2, 2014, from Durban to Cape Town, South Africa.

Tutu will address guests at two speaking engagements onboard about his role as the first black African to serve as archbishop of Cape Town and about his work forging racial equality throughout the world. Beginning with his opposition to apartheid in South Africa, he has worked tirelessly to spread peace, justice and democracy around the globe. A question-and-answer session will enable guests to gain more insight into his remarkable life.

"We strive to bring our guests the most interesting, relevant and unique experiences, and to have a lecturer of the caliber of Desmond Tutu on the Grand World Voyage is as thrilling for me as I know it will be for our guests," said Richard Meadows, executive vice president, marketing, sales and guest programs for Holland America Line. Tutu is among the world's foremost human rights activists, and his teachings speak about the struggles for equality and freedom for all oppressed people. Tutu is known for his unshakable optimism in the face of overwhelming odds and his limitless faith in the ability of people to do good works. In 2007, Tutu joined The Elders, a group of seasoned world leaders including Nelson Mandela, Kofi Annan, Jimmy Carter and others, who meet to discuss ways to promote human rights and world peace. Prior to retiring in 1996, Tutu was Archbishop of Cape Town, an office he was elected to in 1986. In 1978, he left his job as Bishop of Lesotho to become general secretary of the South African Council of Churches. In that position, which he held until 1985, Tutu became a recognized national and international figure.

Tutu is the recipient of several distinguished awards. He received the Nobel Peace Prize in 1984, the Albert Schweitzer Prize for Humanitarianism in 1986, the Pacem in Terris Award in 1987, the Sydney Peace Prize in 1999, the Gandhi Peace Prize in 2007 and the United States' Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2009. Culinary Council Chef Elizabeth Falkner's Dishes Debut On Holland America Line Menus

SEATTLE, Sept. 11: Last spring celebrity chef Elizabeth Falkner became the newest--and first female--member of Holland America Line's prestigious Culinary Council, a group of acclaimed chefs from around the world. Now, guests can sample Falkner's menu additions aboard the Holland America Line ships. The new dishes will be featured on the main dining room menu of the line's 15 ships, continuing a tradition of culinary excellence. In addition to Falkner, Holland America Line's Culinary Council members include Council Chairman and Master Chef Rudi Sodamin, along with renowned chefs Jonnie Boer, David Burke, Jacques Torres and Charlie Trotter. From Torres' chocolate desserts to Burke's spice-crusted prime rib, each of the Culinary Council members has contributed signature dishes to Holland America Line's menus.

"Day to day I'm working with Italian cuisine, which I love, but with Holland America Line's Culinary Council I have the opportunity to continue to explore different flavors and to reach a broader audience," said Falkner. "It's an interesting process to adapt my recipes to the shipboard environment; I had a lot of fun with it."

Among the flavors that Falkner is working with, guests can count on a little spice, whether it is from the Cajun-inspired Shrimp, Andouille and Grits served with braised okra and roasted poblano peppers, or the Asian influences in the Vegetable Curry with Forbidden Rice and Soft Shell Crab Pad Thai. Not all of Falkner's dishes have heat. A taste of Piedmont surfaces in Falkner's Radicchio Salad with Warm Bagna Cauda, a play on the Italian regional dish served with toasted hazelnut and a warm dressing of anchovy, garlic and truffle oil.

"Chef Falkner has brought some phenomenal dishes to our menus and we are fortunate to have her on the council," said Richard Meadows, Holland America Line's executive vice president, marketing, sales and guest programs. "She has a great sensibility when it comes to both flavors and textures, and I think guests will enjoy her fresh approach."

Characterized by her spiky blond hair, Falkner stepped into the national spotlight as a competitor on television shows like "Next Iron Chef" and "Top Chef Masters." Currently she's at the helm of Luis Gonzalez's new Upper West Side restaurant, Corvo Bianco. Before delving into the savory side of the industry, she was a celebrated pastry chef based in San Francisco, Calif., with a James Beard nomination for pastry chef of the year in 2005 and a successful cookbook, "Demolition Desserts," that was a finalist for the Julia Child Best First Cookbook award in 2008. In December 2012 she was inducted into the Culinary Hall of Fame.

MIAMI, Sept. 11: Banana Coast cruise port received an enthusiastic response from the Florida-Caribbean Cruise Association's Security Operations Committee following an August site inspection. Committee members who visited Honduras' first mainland cruise port included FCCA President Michele Paige, Eric Benedict of Norwegian Cruise Line, Federico Gonzalez-Denton of Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd. and Stephen Nielsen of Princess Cruises.

"The cruise industry is very excited about the opportunities that Banana Coast in Trujillo offers as a cruise destination," said Paige. "We found the local government and people of Trujillo to be engaged and supportive of the port development."

Paige noted that the committee characterized the tour program as diverse and professionally executed, and said the port facilities are fully equipped, well laid-out and Americans with Disabilities Act–compliant, offering appealing retail, restaurants and bars; beach access and designated areas for taxis and tour vehicles.

"We were thrilled to host the FCCA and have them experience firsthand our creation of a world-class cruise destination at Banana Coast," said Randy Jorgensen, general manager of Grande Trujillo Authoridad. Carnival Receives Support From EPA, U.S. Coast Guard & Transport Canada to Implement Breakthrough Technology to Reduce Air Emissions

MIAMI, Sept. 5: Carnival Corporation, the world's largest cruise company, announced it has received the support of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), the U.S. Coast Guard, and Transport Canada to implement a significant advancement in environmental technology designed to reduce air emissions from cruise ships and large marine vessels. As part of the announcement, Carnival has committed over $180 million for exhaust gas cleaning technology on 32 ships. These include vessels from Carnival Cruise Lines, Holland America Line, Princess Cruises, and Cunard that sail regularly within the North American Emission Control Area (ECA).

"This is a significant accomplishment as well as an important milestone for our company," said Carnival Corporation & plc CEO Arnold Donald. "Working together with the EPA, U.S. Coast Guard and Transport Canada, we have developed a breakthrough solution for cleaner air that will set a new course in environmental protection for years to come."

Carnival has been a partner in the development of this technology and will take the lead in further refining both design and installation aspects on ships with a variety of engine configurations between now and mid-2016. This new generation of so-called "scrubber technology" combines the removal of sulfur with the substantial reduction of particulate matter and black carbon. Once the exhaust gas cleaning technology is installed and fully operational on the various Carnival subsidiary ships, they will exceed ECA standards. The International Maritime Organization's MARPOL Annex VI places a cap on sulfur within ECAs at 1.0%, which took effect in North America in 2012. In 2015, the limit will be 0.1%.

Carnival's design combines two established technologies, which have been successfully used in power plants, factories and vehicles to clean, or scrub, the exhaust from high-sulfur fuel. For the first time this combination is being developed to accommodate restricted spaces on existing ships. In addition to exceeding stricter air emission standards, a significant public health advancement, Carnival's technology will help the company mitigate escalating fuel costs. The agreement in principle from the EPA and Coast Guard would enable an exemption for Carnival to use the fuel source that makes the most sense from an environmental and economic perspective. The agreement in principle is a requirement for the flag states of each Carnival subsidiary to grant permission for implementation.

The implementation also produces an immediate significant public health benefit, as all of the ships that will have the scrubber technology installed will use either low-sulfur marine gas oil or shore power when in ports in the United States and Canada. Ships that use shore power turn off diesel engines and connect to local electric utility power. As a next step, Carnival will be requesting permits from flag states to allow for the trial of the exhaust gas cleaning technology to proceed. Looking ahead, Carnival plans to explore the possibility of expanding the installation of its scrubber technology beyond the initial 32 ships.

Carnival Corporation is the largest cruise company in the world, with a portfolio of cruise brands in North America, Europe, Australia and Asia, comprised of Carnival Cruise Lines, Holland America Line, Princess Cruises, Seabourn, AIDA Cruises, Costa Cruises, Cunard, Ibero Cruises, P&O Cruises (Australia) and P&O Cruises (UK). Together, these brands operate 102 ships totaling 209,000 lower berths with seven new ships scheduled to be delivered between May 2014 and April 2016. Carnival Corporation & plc also operates Holland America Princess Alaska Tours, the leading tour company in Alaska and the Canadian Yukon.

Viking Cruises Orders More River Ships For 2014

LOS ANGELES, Sept. 5: Amid record levels of consumer interest in river cruising, Viking Cruises announced it has increased its order for additional Viking Longships, bringing the total number of new ships launching in 2014 from 12 to 14 vessels. The increased order reflects the popularity of river cruising as the fastest growing-segment of the travel industry and the leadership position of Viking, the world's leading river cruise line. By the end of 2014, Viking will have introduced a total of 30 new ships in a three-year period, the most rapid fleet expansion program the cruise industry has ever seen. The 14 new ships in 2014 will sail Viking's most popular itineraries in Europe.

"We are working hard to match supply with demand, and with these new builds, we have the best designed, newest and most extensive offer of ships on the rivers--more than double all our competitors combined," said Torstein Hagen, Chairman of Viking Cruises. "More than ever, travelers want experiences that bring them closer to the destination, which is why we continue to design ships and itineraries with destinations and enrichment as the focus."

Over the last few years, river cruising has grown at an average annual rate of approximately nine percent*. Within this segment, Viking has grown at a much faster clip than its competitors, an average of 22 percent per year, compared to the estimated four percent* annual growth of other river cruise lines.

In March of this year, Viking set a world record with the inauguration of 10 new Longships for the 2013 sailing season in a first-of-its-kind simultaneous christening ceremony in Amsterdam. This made way for its most successful sailing season, with more than 90 percent of all available staterooms sold during the spring and summer months and record sales for the holiday sailings. Customer satisfaction is also central to Viking Cruises' growth, specifically in attracting repeat travelers. In fact, for the 2011 sailing season, 97 percent of Viking passengers rated their experience as "above expectations."

Viking Longships integrate patent-pending design and cutting-edge technology with comfortable amenities that reflect guest preferences and current travel trends. These new features include a revolutionary new all-weather indoor/outdoor Aquavit Terrace that reinvents the onboard lounge experience by bringing the panoramic outdoor river scenery indoors with retractable floor-to-ceiling glass doors and allows guests to enjoy the views and dine al fresco. Seabourn Pride Farewell Season Announced

SEATTLE, Sept 4: Seabourn has announced a series of voyages aboard Seabourn Pride dedicated to celebrating the ship's 25-year history with the company. The ship will be transferred to its new owners in Europe in the spring of 2014. Seabourn has created a series of Caribbean voyages incorporating signature Seabourn events such as the iconic "Caviar in the Surf" beach barbecue and the water sports Marina Day that pioneered a new style of luxury small-ship cruising when Seabourn Pride was launched. The final voyage under the Seabourn banner will be a transatlantic voyage departing Fort Lauderdale, Florida, on March 30, 2014.

"Seabourn Pride was the ship that originally inspired one writer to exclaim that 'Seabourn is in a class by itself,'" said Seabourn President Richard Meadows. "It has won the hearts of an exceptionally loyal group of travelers over the years, and we want to give them a number of opportunities to recapture the magic and celebrate the unique family feeling, fun and fellowship they have enjoyed while sailing aboard the intimate Seabourn Pride."

The line has designated 15 cruises from November 11, 2013 through the transatlantic crossing as the ship's "Farewell Season" and has brought back many of its most veteran staff members, and other alumni who served on board over the years. The company has also gathered recipes from the past, including the popular "Presidential Dinners" that recreate ceremonial state dinners served in the U.S. White House. Special onboard activities and themed events will be featured on board.

For Seabourn Pride's dedicated followers, one key element of the celebration is the creation of "Roll Calls" for each of the Farewell Season voyages on Seabourn's Facebook page, where guests can join to see who else will be on their departure, and share news, memories and plans for their upcoming cruises.

Seabourn's all suite ships feature a relaxed, club-like ambiance that encourages an easy sociability among the guests with well-crafted itineraries that attract travelers interested in authentic experiences. Award-winning cuisine is expertly served in a variety of venues with fine wines poured at lunch and dinner and open bars throughout the ship. Onboard entertainment options are varied with the line's popular Seabourn Conversations enrichment series, and along with beautiful, understated elegance in design and thoughtful, quality furnishings, the Seabourn ships provide one of the world's finest vacation options and represent an exceptional value to travelers.

Norwegian Cruise Line Named “Europe’s Leading Cruise Line” For Sixth Consecutive Year

MIAMI, Sept 4: Norwegian Cruise Line has been named “Europe’s Leading Cruise Line” for the sixth consecutive year by the World Travel Awards. The annual awards, held on August 31, in Antalya, Turkey, recognize travel companies for delivering an outstanding customer experience and are voted by travel agents and consumers worldwide. Norwegian, which has been honored with the accolade since 2008, has for the second consecutive year deployed four Freestyle Cruising vessels in Europe in summer, offering an array of sailings ranging from four to fourteen nights. The company will also deploy four ships in Europe next summer.

“We are thrilled that travel partners and consumers worldwide have chosen us for this award for the sixth year in a row,” said Kevin Sheehan, CEO of Norwegian Cruise Line. “A Norwegian Cruise Line vacation is all about freedom and flexibility at sea and receiving this prestigious award shows that both industry professionals and guests really appreciate this unique cruise experience and our varied European cruise program.”

Norwegian’s European sailings provide guests with the opportunity to visit the most beautiful places in Europe in a short period of time. Of the four ships present in European waters during the summer season, two sail Europe year-round. In the upcoming winter season 2013/14, Norwegian Spirit cruises from Barcelona and Málaga to Casablanca, Morocco; Madeira; as well as Lanzarote in the Canary Islands, while Norwegian Jade visits the Eastern and Western Mediterranean on 10- and 11-night cruises from/to Civitavecchia (Rome).

Norwegian’s largest ship to date, Norwegian Epic, sails the Western Mediterranean during the summer season, allowing guests to explore historic destinations such as Rome, Pompeii and Pisa in 7-night round trips from Barcelona and Civitavecchia. In 2014, Norwegian Epic will sail this itinerary on various dates between May 11 and October 19. Other ships sailing in Europe throughout 2014/15 include Norwegian Jade, sailing 7-night Greek Isles and Adriatic itineraries from/to Venice in summer; Norwegian Spirit, sailing the Mediterranean on 12-night cruises between Barcelona and Venice; and Norwegian Star sailing the Baltic Capitals out of Copenhagen.
