Carnival Cruise Lines Kicks Off 2011 With One Simple Question: ‘Hey America, Didja Ever?’

MIAMI, Dec 27: “Didja Ever” zip line across a rain forest? Catch air on a wave runner? Jump into an impromptu performance of Thriller between courses at dinner? Well, mark your new calendar for more fun and firsts! Carnival Cruise Lines unveiled its “Hey America, Didja Ever” campaign that inspires people to try new things to add more fun – and ultimately, happiness and satisfaction – to their lives. Carnival will help consumers share, fulfill and celebrate first-time experiences throughout the year, driven by the “Didja Ever” campaign headquarters on Carnival’s Facebook page (www.facebook.com/carnival) and promoted through exciting and interactive broadcast, online, social media and local marketing efforts.

Carnival is collecting the Top 100 Firsts from its more than 420,000 (and growing) Facebook fans and all of America. The company is encouraging people to check things off their lists, share experiences through photos and video, and create once-in-a-lifetime events and memories. Of course, the Fun Ship company will also help to fulfill many firsts for participants that will include everything from giving away monthly cruise vacations for four to offering once-in-a-lifetime opportunities like appearing on-stage as the opening act for a favorite band, and many other fun activities online and in major markets.

“As a company that is built upon fun and memorable vacation experiences, we thought that it was time to help Americans put fun on the front burner,” said Jim Berra, senior vice president and chief marketing officer for Carnival Cruise Lines. “The ‘Didja Ever’ campaign reminds people it’s time to make their list and start living that list to the fullest. And we’ll provide a little help along the way to fulfill some of these wishes in surprising and unexpected ways throughout the year.”
According to a consumer survey commissioned by Carnival earlier this month, nine out of 10 adults have a list of things they wish to accomplish in their lifetime. Robert Mack, author of the bestselling book, “Happiness From the Inside Out: The Art and Science of Fulfillment,” and celebrity life coach explains, “If you want to live your best life, start by setting a goal that deeply inspires and excites you on a personal level so you’ll stick to it. If you can stay engaged and keep it fun, you’ll be more committed.” Mack added that another important element of success is sharing your goal with other people who will support you and cheer you on. Studies have shown people are up to 10 times more likely to accomplish a goal when they write it down. So sharing that wish or First with your friends on Carnival’s Facebook page is a great first step to achieving success.

On The Air Waves & Online
To promote the new “Didja Ever” campaign, Carnival today debuted the first of its newest television spots that continue the popular “Fun For All. All For Fun.” theme. The ads utilize stunning slow-motion to capture Carnival cruise fans enthralled in first-time moments. The first in the series features a mom who awes her young boys when she catches air on a wave runner. The spots feature the familiar voice of actor John Krasinski who notes “Now, there’s a first,” and the rock anthem “Bang the Drum” by Todd Rundgren.

The new TV spots will air on major networks and top-rated daytime and primetime shows including NBC’s Today Show, Parenthood and The Office, ABC’s Good Morning America, Grey’s Anatomy and Extreme Home Makeover, and CBS’s How I Met Your Mother, Mike and Molly, and Undercover Boss. In addition to new TV spots, Carnival is helping to ring in the New Year as the official confetti sponsorship of the Times Square New Year’s Eve 2011 celebration, and also promoting the “Didja Ever” campaign through online advertising and video which will appear on leading sites such as YouTube, Yahoo!, Hulu and ABC.com.

Undercover Boss’ Norwegian Cruise Line Episode to Air on Jan 2, 2011

MIAMI – December 22: Norwegian Cruise Line President and CEO Kevin Sheehan has his cover blown while working on the frontlines during the company’s episode of the Emmy-nominated hit reality series "Undercover Boss" airing on Sunday, January 2, 2011 (9:00-10:00 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network.

In the Jan. 2 Norwegian Cruise Line episode, Sheehan is recognized by Silvia, a waitress in the Manhattan Room restaurant on Norwegian Epic. During his undercover journey, Sheehan also hosts the line’s signature White Hot Party where he’s forced to step out of his comfort zone to lead a crowd of more than 1,000 guests in a line dance. Sheehan also spent time on Pride of America in Hawaii, where he worked alongside a deck repairman, John, a fellow New Yorker, who was quite critical of Sheehan’s performance.

"Going undercover gave me a much deeper appreciation for our crew and how hard they work everyday creating memorable cruise vacations for our guests,” said Sheehan. "I can now better relate to our crew members. I was humbled by the experience and have an even greater respect for our crew since I’ve walked in their shoes."

Each week, "Undercover Boss" follows a different executive as he or she leaves the comfort of the corner office for an undercover mission to examine the inner workings of their companies. While working alongside their employees, they see the effects that their decisions have on others, where the problems lie within their organizations and get an up-close look at both the good and the bad while discovering the unsung heroes who make their companies run.

For more information on Sheehan’s undercover experience and Norwegian Cruise Line, visit www.ncl.com/undercoverboss.

About Kevin Sheehan
Since taking the helm of Norwegian Cruise Line in 2008, Kevin Sheehan has overseen major company initiatives including vastly improving on-board service and amenities across the fleet; expanding the line’s European presence; repositioning two of the line’s Hawai’i-based ships creating a profitable business model; revitalizing top management with a mixture of cruise industry and outside expertise; and using his extensive 30-year background in the business world to help Norwegian post a sharp turnaround in profitability in the midst of a tough economic climate.

Sheehan comes from a diverse professional background that includes helping to found Spanish-language television network Telemundo; taking several companies public including rental car giant Avis; aiding in the inception and launch of the Sega Channel, the first interactive game platform over cable; teaching full-time at Adelphi University in New York and consulting for a variety of private equity firms, including Apollo Management, a Norwegian shareholder. Sheehan’s tell-it-like-it-is persona and personal philosophy of leading by example has allowed him to reinvigorate the organization by opening lines of communication and creating a positive corporate culture.

Before joining Norwegian in 2007, Sheehan was Chairman and CEO of Cendant Corp Vehicle Services Division where he was responsible for Avis Rent A Car, Budget Rent A Car, Budget Trucks, PHH Vehicle Management, First Fleet and Wright Express. SeaDream Yacht Club Assists nearly 600 Charities via Live Auction

Miami, FL, Dec 21: When SeaDream was founded in September 2001, they searched for opportunities to get the small company’s name out in a big way. At a challenging time, with empty staterooms to fill and a modest advertising budget, SeaDream developed a program for non-profits to sell a SeaDream voyage at live (oral) auction fundraisers. Typically charity events, be it black-tie galas, golf tournaments or fashion shows, attract community “movers & shakers”. It’s a select audience who may pay entrance fees in the $200-$700+ range. These individuals attend the event prepared to purchase silent auction, live auction and raffle ticket items in support of the charity. Luxury travel items garner high bids and ultimately, big dollars for the charity.

Since SeaDream started their charity auction program, they have worked with close to 600 charities in several countries including the USA, Germany, Canada, Australia and Mexico. SeaDream’s President Bob Lepisto said “We found the philanthropy sector to be a very smart way to target market to our audience. We were able to assist worthy causes and at the same time gain exposure to choice audiences in select cities by way of fundraisers benefitting hospitals, theatres, private schools and the like.”

Times have changed since 2001 and SeaDream’s yachts now sail at close to 100% occupancy. However, SeaDream realizes the importance of this program and continues to work with charities world wide. Adrienne d’Annunzio, who handles the administration of this program for SeaDream said, “Charities are always looking for unique, “hot” items to make their auction enticing. The number of guests that sail with SeaDream first thru an auction purchase and then return to sail again is quite high. The auction winners become repeat guests. It’s a win-win.”

“I welcome travel professionals and non-profits to contact me and submit their request. Because of our limited availability, we may not participate in every event that approaches us and the charity should be aware the voyage is on consignment.” To learn more, contact SeaDream Yacht Club at 1 800 707-4911 or Adannunzio@SeaDream.com.

The expression “Yachting” is not a sentiment about size; it is a statement about lifestyle aboard the small vessels. Chic and stylish, SeaDream’s 56-stateroom yachts are favored for their elegant informality, state-of-the-art facilities, personal service provided by a crew of 95, inclusive open bar and gratuities, ocean view accommodations, luxury spa and world class cuisine. Carnival Cruise Lines Brings Confetti Fun to Times Square for
New Year's Eve 2011 Festivities

MIAMI, Dec. 16: For the first time ever, Carnival Cruise Lines is infusing its fun spirit into the world's largest New Year's Eve celebration in New York's Times Square. Carnival today announced it is the official confetti sponsor of the Times Square New Year's Eve 2011 celebration, bringing its signature fun and popular brand to the annual gathering of more than a million revelers. The sponsorship includes multiple opportunities to associate the "Fun Ship" brand with the annual excitement and engage Times Square visitors and Carnival fans online with the option to have their wishes for 2011 added to the celebration's confetti.

Carnival's Senior Cruise Director will lead the official confetti air-worthiness test in Times Square in late December. He will then join the main event stage on Dec 31 to lead the New Year's Eve celebrants in a practice countdown, complete with 500 pounds of Carnival-colored red, white and blue confetti, the first confetti drop of the New Year's Eve 2011 party. At the stroke of midnight on Jan 1, 2011, a ton of colorful Carnival Confetti, hand-tossed by approximately 100 "confetti dispersal engineers," including a number of lucky Carnival employees, will fill the New York City skyline. Carnival will also engage the crowd through billboard advertisements and a text to win cruise giveaway on New Year's Eve.

"Carnival is thrilled to be part of New York City's New Year's Eve celebration and add our brand of participatory fun to the festivities," said Jim Berra, senior vice president and chief marketing officer for Carnival Cruise Lines. "There is no place more iconic and energetic than Times Square on New Year's Eve, so the opportunity to be the official confetti sponsor of this celebration is a great way for us to reinforce the fun our guests experience and to kick off the New Year for our brand. We'll also be sending warm thoughts of Caribbean climes and tropical breezes to the revelers braving the cold by giving away a Carnival cruise vacation to one lucky person."

Carnival is giving people a chance to get in on the confetti fun with the Carnival Confetti New Year's Eve Wishing Wall at the Times Square Visitor's Center located at 1560 Broadway in New York City. Wishing Wall visitors are invited to share their hopes and dreams for the coming year on colorful slips of paper that will be added to the ton of confetti that will rain from the sky as the clock strikes midnight. Those unable to visit the Wishing Wall but who would still like to have their wish included in the Carnival Confetti, can visit www.facebook.com/Carnival to learn more and follow simple instructions to share what fun things they wish to do next year and have their wish included in the confetti that will be part of the Times Square New Year's Eve celebration.

Carnival Cruise Lines Cancels Additional Voyages of Carnival Splendor as Repairs Continue

MIAMI, Dec. 15: Carnival Cruise Lines has cancelled additional departures of the Carnival Splendor including the Jan 16, 23, & 30 and Feb 6 & 13, 2011 voyages to allow for additional repair time following an engine room fire aboard the vessel in November. The ship is now scheduled to re-enter service Feb 20, 2011. As repairs have progressed and damaged components tested, additional issues have been discovered. Also, some of the needed parts are not readily available and are being manufactured in Europe. The ship is currently in San Diego, however, it will sail to San Francisco in mid-January where repairs will be completed at a dry dock facility.

"We sincerely apologize to our guests for having to cancel these additional cruises," said Gerry Cahill, Carnival's president and CEO. "We made our best effort back in November to estimate the necessary repair time with a strong goal of not having to modify it at a later point in time. Unfortunately, as the repairs have progressed and we have discovered additional issues, it is now clear that we need more time. We know this is extremely disappointing for our guests and particularly disheartening for those who already had their vacations cancelled once and are now being affected again."

Guests booked on the cancelled voyages will receive a refund or future cruise credit equal to the amount paid, along with reimbursement of air transportation-related change fees. Those who re-book may also receive a 25 percent future cruise discount and/or onboard credit depending on the ship and sailing date of the new booking. Additional details are available at carnival.com.

Carnival is contacting travel agents and guests affected by the new cancellations to provide assistance. Travel agent commissions on cancelled sailings are being protected. Carnival Splendor operates year-round seven-day Mexican Riviera voyages from Long Beach, California.

Author Terry Breen to Lecture on Oceania Cruises’ Inaugural Summer Alaska Cruises

Miami, Dec. 15: Oceania Cruises has announced that Terry Breen will be a guest lecturer featured on its summer Alaska cruises aboard the line’s elegant 684-passenger Regatta. Breen will give enrichment lectures and share personal insights with guests as they explore the Inside Passage and lesser-known Alaskan ports. With 19 years of expedition experience, Breen has honed her love for cultural anthropology and exploration with an innate stage presence to become an acclaimed area specialist. Author of The Cruiser Friendly Onboard Guide series, the first and only guides that explore the world as seen from the decks of a cruise ship, Breen will share her invaluable insight and understanding of Alaska’s celebrated sights and uncultivated wilderness.

“We are delighted to have Terry join the Oceania Cruises family for our maiden foray into Alaska,” states Bob Binder, president of Oceania Cruises. “Her style and in-depth knowledge of the Great State will complement our distinctive voyages.”

Oceania Cruises’ 12-Day Alaskan Grandeur itinerary operates between San Francisco and Vancouver on May 26 and again Aug. 14. With the line’s Double Bonus Savings promotion offering two-for-one cruise fares, free airfare, a per stateroom savings of $1,000 off cruise fares plus a $1,000 shipboard credit, rates start at just $3,299 per person, based on double occupancy, if booked by Dec. 31, 2010. Ports include:

Astoria: Known as the “Little San Francisco of the Pacific Northwest” due to colorful Victorian homes clinging to its steep hills, Astoria was established in 1811 and is the oldest American settlement west of the Rockies.
Wrangell: A former Tlingit Indian stronghold, then a Russian outpost, and finally an American settlement in 1867, on nearby Chief Shakes Island Wrangell guests can see a preserved tribal house and learn about the three gold rushes that transformed the Wrangell area.
Juneau: For a state capital, Juneau maintains a surprising small-town charm, in part because it can only be reached by sea or air due to surrounding wilderness. Visitors to the Alaska State Museum can see collections from the indigenous people. More adventurous shore excursions are also available, including a Musher’s Camp & Sled Dog Discovery.
Hoonah: Hoonah, which means “where the north wind doesn’t blow” in the language of the Tlingit Indians, serves as our gateway to Icy Strait Point. Here wildlife outnumbers people so guests will have ample opportunities to see bears and eagles in their natural habitats as well as humpback whales, which migrate to the area in the summer.
• Sitka: Called “Shee Atika” by the Tlingit Indians, then “New Archangel” by Russians who ousted them, Sitka boasts a multicultural heritage. Two dozen of its attractions are on the National Register of Historic Places, including Castle Hill and Building 29, built by Russian settlers in 1835. The Sheldon Jackson Museum exhibits one of Alaska’s oldest native culture collections.
• Ketchikan: Totem poles are one of Ketchikan’s main attractions and the best places to view them are the Saxman Village and Totem Bight State Park. Guests can also learn about the local cultures and ecosystems at the Southeast Alaska Discovery Center.

Travelers will discover Alaska aboard Oceania Cruises’ 684-guest Regatta – an intimate ship known for its gourmet cuisine, luxurious public rooms and accommodations, and attentive service. As a special highlight, Pacific Northwest specialties will be featured during lunch in the casual Terrace Café and in the ship’s elegant Grand Dining Room. Regional specialties will also be showcased in all four of the ship’s open-seating restaurants; all of which are available with no surcharge.

When provisioning locally, the ship’s executive chef seeks the freshest catch and shellfish, making on-the-spot decisions. Consequently, not all selections will always be available and there may be surprise menu additions. Depending on the voyage and venue, appetizers might include Fresh Halibut Velouté – a creamy fish soup with saffron rice and julienne leeks – or Alaskan King Crab Legs, sure to be a guest favorite. Norwegian Cruise Line Announces Largest European Deployment
in the Company’s History For 2012/2013

MIAMI, Dec 15: Norwegian Cruise Line today announced its largest European deployment ever for the 2012/2013 season with four Freestyle Cruising ships, including two year-round. Norwegian Spirit will join Norwegian Jade sailing year-round in Europe beginning in April 2012. This is also the first time Norwegian Spirit will sail in Europe offering 12-day Grand Mediterranean voyages in the summer and fall, along with nine-day Canary Islands in the winter and spring. The company’s largest and most innovative ship, Norwegian Epic, and Norwegian Sun will continue cruising seasonally from Barcelona and Copenhagen respectively. These cruises go on sale to Norwegian’s top travel partners and Latitudes members (past guests) today, Dec 15, 2010 and to the general public on Thursday, Dec 16.

“Europe is one of the world’s fastest growing cruise markets and one where Freestyle Cruising is very well received. Given this, we felt it was the right time to deploy four ships, including two year-round, in Europe, marking our largest European deployment in the company’s history,” said Kevin Sheehan, Norwegian’s chief executive officer. “Guests now have the flexibility of embarking from four homeports in Europe sailing to some of the most exciting destinations in the world.”

The 2,018-passenger Norwegian Spirit will make her European debut with two memorable itineraries including a 12-day Grand Mediterranean cruise from Venice, Italy and Barcelona, Spain during the summer, and a nine-day Canary Islands cruise from Barcelona through the fall and winter. The 12-day Grand Mediterranean sailings run from April 28, 2012 to October 25, 2012 and begin in either Barcelona or Venice and call on Provence (Toulon), France; Florence/Pisa (Livorno), Rome (Civitavecchia) and Naples, Italy; Mykonos and Athens (Piraeus), Greece; and Istanbul and Ephesus (Izmir), Turkey. The nine-day Canary Islands cruises from Barcelona will sail from November 6, 2012 to April 8, 2013 and call on Funchal, Madeira; Santa Cruz de Tenerife; and Arrecife, Lanzarote, Canary Islands; and Granada (Málaga), Spain. Norwegian Spirit will also sail an 11-day Grand Mediterranean cruise from Barcelona to Venice on July 9, 2012 and a 13-day Grand Mediterranean from Venice to Barcelona on July 20, 2012.

Continuing her year-round sailings in Europe, the 2,402-passenger Norwegian Jade will sail seven unique itineraries with ports of call in Greece, Italy, Turkey, Croatia, Israel, and Egypt from her homeports of Rome (Civitavecchia) and Venice, Italy. Norwegian Jade will continue her popular alternating 7-day Greek Isles and Greece and Turkey cruises departing on Saturdays from Venice from April 28, 2012 to Oct 6, 2012. The Greek Isles cruises call on Corfu, Santorini, Mykonos and Olympia (Katakolon), Greece. The Greece and Turkey sailings call on Dubrovnik and Split, Croatia; Athens (Piraeus), Greece; and Ephesus (Izmir), Turkey. Since there is no port repetition between the two itineraries, they can be easily combined on most sailings to create a port-rich 14-day European tour. Also from Venice, Norwegian Jade will sail a 6-day Croatia and Greece cruise on July 14, 2012; and an 8-day Greek Isles and Turkey cruise on July 20, 2012, as well as a seven-day Adriatic and Italy cruise on October 13, 2012 with disembarkation in Rome (Civitavecchia).

From Rome, Norwegian Jade will sail alternating 11-day Mediterranean & the Holy Land cruises departing on Saturdays and 10-day Eastern Mediterranean cruises departing on Wednesdays from Oct 20, 2012 to April 17, 2013. The Mediterranean and the Holy Land cruises call on Alanya, Turkey; Limassol, Cyprus; Haifa and Ashdod, Israel; and Port Said and Alexandria, Egypt. The Eastern Mediterranean cruises call on Olympia (Katakolon) and Athens (Piraeus), Greece; Ephesus (Izmir), Turkey; and an overnight stay in Alexandria, Egypt.

Norwegian’s newest and most innovative ship, Norwegian Epic, will return to Barcelona sailing a series of 25 seven-day Western Mediterranean cruises from April 29 to Oct 14, 2012. The ship will call on Naples, Rome (Civitavecchia), and Florence/Pisa (Livorno), Italy; and Nice (Villefranche) and Provence (Marseille), France. In addition, Norwegian Epic will sail one 4-day Western Mediterranean cruise on April 25, 2012.

Norwegian Sun will continue sailing her 9-day Baltic Capital cruises from Copenhagen, Denmark from May 4 to Sept 7, 2012 calling on Berlin (Warnemünde), Germany; Tallinn, Estonia; an overnight stay in St. Petersburg, Russia; Helsinki, Finland and Stockholm, Sweden. Norwegian Sun will also sail one 14-day Norway, Iceland & Faroe Islands cruise on September 16, 2012 calling on Bergen, and Alesund, Norway; Lerwick, Shetland Islands; Thorshavn, Faroe Islands; Reykjavik, Iceland; Glasgow (Greenock), Scotland and Dublin, Ireland.

In addition, there are five opportunities for guests to have an experience of a lifetime crossing the Atlantic with Norwegian’s Transatlantic cruises. Norwegian Epic offers two options: an 11-day Transatlantic from Miami to Barcelona on April 14, 2012 and a 13-day Transatlantic from Barcelona to Miami on Oct 21, 2012. Norwegian Spirit offers a 13-day Transatlantic from New Orleans to Barcelona on April 15, 2012. Cunard Line Encourages Fans to Vote for Its Inaugural Float in The 2011 Tournament of Roses Parade Viewers’ Choice Awards

Dec 15: Cunard Line encourages its global fan base to vote for its inaugural float entry, “A Grand Celebration at Sea,” which is eligible for a Viewers’ Choice Award at the 122nd Rose Parade presented by Honda. For the third year in a row, the Viewers’ Choice Award will allow Rose Parade fans to choose their favorite float by voting online and, for the first time ever, via text message.

Viewers will be able to vote for the Viewers’ Choice Award by texting the keyword FLOAT followed by the float I.D. (50 for Cunard) to 50649, or by voting online at www.tournamentofroses.com/viewers-choice-award. Fans can vote up to five times for their favorite float. Voting will take place from 8:00 a.m. (PST) to 2:10pm (PST) on Jan 1, 2011 (message and data rates may apply*).

Just last month, Cunard announced its first-ever participation in the world-famous Rose Parade with an unveiling of its float, “A Grand Celebration at Sea,” created by Fiesta Parade Floats in collaboration with renowned artist and float designer Raul Rodriguez. The inaugural float will illustrate the Cunard fleet of Queens – flagship Queen Mary 2, Queen Victoria and the new Queen Elizabeth – and depict the ultimate sense of occasion, including ballroom dancing, a big band orchestra, champagne toasts, and multigenerational families celebrating their dreams, friendships and making memories, all on board a luxury cruise vacation with Cunard.

From bow to stern, Cunard’s float will be decorated in floral grandeur, reflecting the Line’s classic ocean travel experience. The float will also depict signature hallmarks found on a Cunard liner, including the Grand Lobby staircase and the Queens Room Ballroom. Additionally, an oversized floralgraph of Cunard’s three Queens takes center stage at the top of the float’s ascending staircases, a fitting reference to the modern fleet and also to the upcoming Cunard Royal Rendezvous taking place on Jan 13, 2011 in New York Harbor. This rare maritime event will be only the second time in Cunard’s 170-year history that three regal Cunard Queens have docked together in New York.

Featuring an eloquent fusion of floral and architectural detail in Cunard’s rich tradition of elegance and grandeur, the float stands at 24 feet high, 18 feet wide and 55 feet in length. It will include a big band orchestra and ballroom dancers to bring to life the Line’s famed Royal Nights Themed Balls, along with theatrical smoke rising from Cunard’s signature black and red funnel.

The Pasadena Tournament of Roses is a volunteer organization that annually hosts the Rose Parade taking place Saturday, Jan 1, 2011, at 8 a.m. (PST) featuring majestic floral floats, high-stepping equestrian units and spirited marching bands. Food Network Challenge Competitors Face Off After Cruise on the Carnival Dream

MIAMI, Dec 14: Carnival Cruise Lines hosted four of the country’s top pastry chefs on a 7-day cruise aboard the Carnival Dream during which they experienced a series of exhilarating and memorable shore excursions that provided inspiration for their extraordinary creations to be featured on the Dec 19 episode of Food Network Challenge: Sugar Destinations. Food Network Challenge is a highly popular, long-running show on Food Network, which pits professional-chef competitors against each other to create incomparable feats in their food specialty.

This episode’s competition has the chefs experiencing four of Carnival Dream’s signature shore excursions and then creating edible sugar masterpieces that bring them to life. The featured shore excursions include a Catamaran and Snorkel adventure in the crystal blue waters off Cozumel, Mexico; a Dolphin Encounter experience in lush Roatan, Bay Islands, Honduras; an exotic Lost World Canopy Tour and Zipline adventure in Belize, and a fascinating visit to the Chacchoben Mayan Ruins deep in the tropical rain forest near Costa Maya, Mexico. Each excursion provided inspiration for one of the astonishing feats of confectionary and sugar created by the competing chefs.

Contestants Chris Hanmer, owner of The School of Pastry Design, Las Vegas, NV; Matt James, from the Everglades Country Club, Palm Beach, Fla.; Orlando Santos, from The Duquesne Club, Pittsburg, Penn., and Tracy Dewitt from Le Cordon Bleu College, Scottsdale, AZ are judged by Carnival Cruise Lines’ Director of Advertising Jennifer Vandekreeke, as well as two highly-esteemed sugar-crafting experts. To be successful, each chef must capture the extraordinary beauty and tropical ambiance of the Caribbean while evoking the magic of their own personal experience during their Carnival Dream shore excursion. The first prize winner receives $10,000.

“Judging the competition was fascinating,” says Vandekreeke. “I never knew you could do such amazing things with a raw ingredient like sugar. It was exciting to hear how much they enjoyed their Carnival cruise and all the new experiences they had during their week. The hardest part was choosing a winner.”

See how the competing chefs’ sugar depictions of the Carnival Dream’s shore excursions fare at the judging table by tuning in to Food Network Challenge: Sugar Destinations on Dec 19 at 8 p.m. ET/PT.

The 3,646-passenger Carnival Dream operates 7-day eastern and western Caribbean cruises from Port Canaveral, FL. Currently the newest ship in Carnival’s fleet, it offers a wide range of innovative on-board amenities and facilities, including Carnival Cruise Lines’ first comedy club, elaborate outdoor recreation areas including a water park, several exhilarating water slides, an adults-only Serenity Deck, a delectable array of complimentary dining options, and a 23,750-square-foot spa and health club. Celebrity Cruises Gives St. Kitts A Vote Of Confidence

Basseterre, St. Kitts, Dec 14: “A very positive meeting” is the comment made by Minister of Tourism & International Transport, Senator Ricky Skerritt, to describe the visit by himself and Tourism Authority CEO, Rosecita Jeffers, to the Port of Miami offices of Royal Caribbean International & Celebrity Cruises last Friday.

Senator Skerritt said the face-to-face meeting with top Celebrity officials enabled him to apologize in person on behalf of the Government and citizens of St Kitts & Nevis for the unprecedented Nov 14 robbery of a tour bus carrying passengers from the Celebrity Mercury. The Tourism Minister also took the opportunity to discuss measures being taken locally to strengthen cruise passenger safety and security, and to minimise the risk of a similar incident recurring.

Celebrity’s Head of Security, Gary Bald, also confirmed that, since the incident, security officials from the cruise line were in ongoing contact with the St. Kitts & Nevis Police High Command on matters related to the police investigation. During the meeting, the good news was also revealed by Federico Gonzalez-Denton, RCI/Celebrity’s Director for Government Relations, that the Celebrity Solstice will make two unscheduled calls to St Kitts on Feb 2 and March 3 next year. According to Skerritt, the addition of these two calls is a clear vote of confidence in the viability of St. Kitts as a port-of-call for Celebrity Cruises. Five other Celebrity ships are already making 47 scheduled calls to St Kitts, but this season’s schedule did not previously include calls from the ‘Solstice’.

Located in the northern Leeward Islands of the Caribbean, St. Kitts offers a diverse tourism product developed from the destination’s natural beauty, cultural heritage and rich history. The island’s stunning variety of tourism attractions include hiking through the tropical rainforest, riding the scenic railway that connects the island’s sugar plantations, visiting the Caribelle Batik factory, touring Brimstone Hill Fortress National Park, the only man-made UNESCO World Heritage Site in the Eastern Caribbean, and the more traditional vacation pastimes such as watersports, golf, shopping, tennis, gourmet dining, gaming at one of St. Kitts’ two casinos or simply relaxing on one of the island’s sandy beaches. Guests can select from accommodations ranging from intimate plantation inns to larger hotels or resorts. Holland America Line Lauded for its Comprehensive Environmental Initiatives

SEATTLE, Dec. 9: In recognition of its environmental leadership, Holland America Line was recently honored with a gold 2010 Rear Admiral William M. Benkert Environmental Protection Award from the U.S. Coast Guard, was named World's Leading Green Cruise Line at the World Travel Awards in London, and received a Blue Circle Award from the Port of Vancouver.

The U.S. Coast Guard Benkert Award was bestowed by a panel of experts based on a thorough review of the line's comprehensive approach to environmental stewardship. Nominations for the World Travel Awards featured 5,000 companies from 162 countries across 1,000 categories. The winners were selected by thousands of industry professionals and consumers worldwide who voted online. Under Port Metro Vancouver's EcoAction Program for Shipping, the Blue Circle Award is a recognition reserved for only the highest emissions-reduction achievements.

"We work diligently every day to reduce Holland America Line's ecological footprint, and these awards validate our fleetwide efforts," said Stein Kruse, president and CEO of Holland America Line. "We are grateful that the U.S. Coast Guard and our travel industry and seaport partners appreciate our commitment to the environment and have recognized our dedication to environmental stewardship with these awards."

Holland America Line is a leader in environmental initiatives in the cruise industry with its comprehensive approach to managing impacts and reducing its overall carbon footprint. The line's Environmental Management System was certified in 2006 and recertified in 2009. The company works diligently to conserve fuel and water, employs the latest technologies for wastewater and oily bilge water treatment, and uses innovative strategies to reduce and manage its solid waste stream. Holland America Line also is an industry leader in exploring new environmental initiatives such as a whale conservation and protection program and using shore power in a growing number of ports.

The William M. Benkert Award is the premier marine environmental protection award presented by the Coast Guard to members of the marine industry. This biennial award recognizes organizations for outstanding achievements in all aspects of marine environmental protection. The award was created to recognize outstanding achievements in marine environmental protection that go beyond mere compliance with industrial and regulatory standards.

The World Travel Awards were developed in 1993 to celebrate excellence and achievement in the travel and tourism industry, and winners comprise a "who's who" of the travel community. The "Wall Street Journal" has called the awards the "Oscars of the travel and tourism industry."

The Blue Circle Awards honor a company's efforts to reduce air emissions, depending on the quality of fuel used and overall emission reductions.

History is Made As Cunard Appoints the Line’s First Female Captain

Dec 9: When Inger Klein Olsen assumed command of Cunard Line's Queen Victoria on Wednesday, 1 December 2010, she made history by becoming the venerable shipping line's first female captain. Captain Olsen’s first task at the helm of Queen Victoria was to take the ship, without passengers, to drydock in Hamburg for its planned refit. Next Wednesday, Dec 15, she will be on the bridge as the ship sets sail with a full complement of guests.

Forty-three-year-old Captain Olsen was born and raised in the Faroe Islands, which accounts for her maritime abilities, and she joined Cunard in 1997 as First Officer on board Caronia. In 2001 she transferred to the Seabourn fleet, which at that time was part of Cunard. She sailed on Seabourn Sun and Seabourn Spirit before being promoted to the rank of Staff Captain on Seabourn Pride in 2003. Following some years with other companies within the Carnival Corporation group, Captain Olsen returned to Cunard in August this year as Deputy Captain of Queen Victoria.

“While we are far from being the first shipping company to have a female captain, it is nonetheless noteworthy when such a long-established British institution as Cunard makes a break with its captaincy tradition,” said Peter Shanks, president of Cunard. “But as Mark Twain drily observed, 'the folks at Cunard wouldn't appoint Noah himself as captain until he had worked his way up through the ranks.’ Inger has certainly done that,” Shanks continued, “and we are delighted to welcome her as our first woman driver.”

Olsen will helm Queen Victoria during the ship's debut Americas season, commencing from New York to Los Angeles on Jan 13. During the first 17-day voyage, the ship will call on Ft. Lauderdale and Bonaire, transit the Panama Canal, and visit three ports in Mexico - Huatulco, Acapulco and Manzanillo - before arriving into Los Angeles on 30 January. Captain Olsen will take her leave on Feb 13. Captain Olsen lives in Denmark.

Queen Victoria's Americas season continues until March 18, and features several transits through the Panama Canal, four calls to Los Angeles, two roundtrip voyages from Los Angeles to Hawaii, and one Getaway voyage to Mexico. For more information about Queen Victoria and to book a voyage, consult your travel professional, call toll-free 1-800-7-CUNARD (1-800-728-6273) or go to www.cunard.com

Celebrity Cruises To Present More Avant-garde Industry Firsts On Celebrity Silhouette & Celebrity Reflection

Miami, Dec 08: How do you make the best even better? Celebrity Cruises believes you break the rules, stay ahead of the curve, and provide what vacationers want most - often before they even say they want it. That belief is vividly reflected in the distinctive, luxurious, vacation-enhancing venues Celebrity will introduce on the fourth and fifth ships in its award-winning Solstice Class fleet, Celebrity Silhouette and Celebrity Reflection.

"We recognize that consumers' vacation time is precious, and that's what drives us to continually create new and unique experiences that enhance their rare time away," said Celebrity Cruises President & CEO Dan Hanrahan. "The host of honors our Solstice Class and Millennium Class have won have been incredible validation of that commitment, and on Celebrity Silhouette and Celebrity Reflection, we're capitalizing on the opportunity to further elevate our onboard offerings, particularly in our Solstice Class' iconic Lawn Club, and with our wildly popular AquaClass category of accommodations and its exclusive specialty restaurant, Blu. Initially, we planned to introduce these exciting new enhancements only on Celebrity Reflection, but to our delight, our outstanding partners at Meyer Werft were able to also deliver every new feature with the exception of AquaClass Suites on Celebrity Silhouette."

New AquaClass Sky suites highlight expanded accommodations
Driven by high demand for Celebrity's industry-first AquaClass category of spa-inspired accommodations, and by way of an additional deck being added to Celebrity Reflection, Celebrity will introduce on that ship the line's first AquaClass Suites, each offering 251 square feet of luxurious interior space and spacious 57-square-foot verandas, and all the amenities associated with Celebrity's AquaClass accommodations, including exclusive and complimentary access to the highly-rated specialty restaurant, "Blu," noted for inviting, modern design and flavorful, healthy, clean cuisine. The new suites also will offer the luxurious 24/7 butler service that is a hallmark of every suite across the Celebrity fleet. In addition to the 34 new AquaClass Suites, Celebrity Reflection also will present an additional eight luxurious new Sky Suites, 19 additional plush ConciergeClass staterooms, and 11 additional inside staterooms, bringing the stateroom/suite total to 1,515.

Maintaining Celebrity's best-in-class, premium space ratio and lauded traffic flow, Celebrity Reflection will offer an additional 245 loungers on the expanded pool deck to suit the increased overall guest capacity, as well as 45 additional seats in the Celebrity Theater, 118 in Oceanview Café, 24 additional seats each in Blu and in Tuscan Grille, four more in Qsine, and 40 additional seats in the main dining room, where Celebrity also offers Celebrity Select DiningSM, the industry's first flexible dining option allowing guests to choose when they wish to dine on a flexible, day-by-day basis.

The Lawn Club
Inspired by the popularity of its iconic, industry-first Lawn Club, Celebrity will leverage its brand pillars of outstanding dining experiences, enriching activities, relaxation and pampering, and modern design to offer vacationers on Celebrity Silhouette and Celebrity Reflection significantly expanded opportunities to eat and drink, relax and lounge, and participate and socialize within the inviting space.

The Lawn Club Grill
Both Celebrity Silhouette and Celebrity Reflection will present "The Lawn Club Grill," the industry's first outdoor, interactive grill venue. A new, exceptionally social specialty dining option overlooking the lush lawn and soothing sea, The Lawn Club Grill will boast a design likely to be the envy of novice and experienced chefs alike, with gleaming stainless steel grills and other appliances, custom pizza-making tables and large ovens.

By day, in addition to a casual lunch menu highlighted by a variety of high-end burgers, the venue will present interactive demonstrations and classes focused on pizza-making - including the art of dough-tossing - grilling secrets, mouth-watering marinades and more, led by Celebrity's own chefs, as well as guest chefs participating in Celebrity's "Savor Your Destination" program.

By night, in a particularly unique twist, guests will have their choice from an array of top-quality meats to either grill themselves, side-by-side with Celebrity's chefs, or have grilled to order. A nominal surcharge will apply. Complementing the dinner experience will be libations ranging from wines, beer and sangria, all consistent with the casual nature of the 56-seat restaurant.

The Porch
With its chic, Hamptons-style design, modern furnishings, and creative use of natural light, all complemented by the enticing aroma of fresh-baked breads and pastries, The Porch will be the idyllic spot for quick, simple, casual and complimentary breakfasts and lunches. The intimate, 48-seat venue will be the perfect place to enjoy complimentary fresh pastries, salads, paninis and other sandwiches, in addition to specialty coffees, beer and wine, all enhanced by views of the lawn and sea.

The Art Studio
With one of the world's largest corporate collections of contemporary art exhibited across its fleet, and given the enthusiasm guests expressed when the line introduced the industry's first art tours to be offered on an iPad®, Celebrity will further appeal to its guests' love of art in "The Art Studio" within the area of The Lawn Club. There, experienced and novice artists alike can participate in intimate, hands-on instruction from experts in drawing, painting and beading, as well as the art of food, with plating, tastings, mixology and other culinary-themed classes. The Art Studio also will present exclusive, intimate pairing dinners hosted by guest chefs participating in Celebrity's Savor Your Destination program.

The Alcoves
For a private retreat overlooking the lawn, ocean and coastlines, Celebrity also will present within The Lawn Club "The Alcoves," eight exclusive, cabana-style settings, each designed for two to four guests. Each of The Alcoves on Celebrity Silhouette and Celebrity Reflection will offer WiFi for guests who want to stay connected while relaxing, themed picnic baskets and an a la carte beverage menu. The Alcoves will be available as partial or all-day rentals. Adjacent to The Alcoves, guests will find eight inviting hammocks and two whimsical, oversized Adirondack chairs, each offering complimentary, additional opportunities to relax amidst the atmosphere of the lawn and sea.

Michael's Club
Celebrity's history and future will converge in Michael's Club - a venue found on every Celebrity ship - where the line will present on Celebrity Silhouette and Celebrity Reflection a restyled, casually elegant bar where vacationers can sit back and enjoy the comfortably sophisticated atmosphere while watching the World Cup games and sipping a Chimay Blue.

Across the Celebrity fleet, Michael's Club offers an impressive selection of rare malts, whiskies and scotches. Building on that tradition, the "new" Michael's Club on Celebrity Silhouette and Celebrity Reflection will add an equally impressive selection of more than 50 beers, including flavorful craft beers, and will allow guests to participate in engaging experiences such as ideal food and beer pairings, how to pour the perfect draft, or how to select the proper beer glass, all while snacking on homemade, gourmet potato chips and bread sticks, and fresh, lightly-spiced caramel popcorn, amidst a vibe of live music and cool playlists, or major international sporting events airing on the venue's large, 46" TV screens.

The Hideway
Guests seeking a particularly quiet spot to get away from it all can do so in a new venue inspired precisely by that interest. "The Hideaway" on Celebrity Silhouette and Celebrity Reflection will provide a high-tech escape for vacationers relaxing with their iPads or perhaps trying out a new Apple product from the Celebrity iLounge, or a low-tech retreat for reading a good book. Inspired by the live trees suspended within the Grand Foyer of every Solstice Class ship, the design of The Hideaway reflects that of an upscale, avant-garde tree house, with cozy, intimate lounging "nests," or niches.

The Solstice Class Difference
"We are constantly dedicated to building every aspect of the Celebrity vacation experience around what vacationers want most during their precious time away, and the greatest validation of that commitment has been the response to our stunning Solstice Class," said Hanrahan. "We're eager to have our guests continue to experience all the distinctive attributes of those stunning ships, as well as the new offerings they have inspired on Celebrity Silhouette and Celebrity Reflection. We are confident all of this will further solidify our leadership role in the industry and keep vacationers coming back."

In addition to the innovative new venues and experiences, Celebrity Silhouette and Celebrity Reflection will join sister ships Celebrity Solstice, Celebrity Equinox and Celebrity Eclipse in offering:

•The hip "Celebrity iLounge" that made Celebrity Cruises the industry's first Authorized Apple Reseller
•Uniquely unordinary "Qsine," the first seagoing restaurant to feature a menu and wine list on an iPad®, and an engaging food-as-theater dining experience

Holland America Line Launches 'Memorable Crossings' Story Contest With 2011 Trans-Atlantic Voyage Prize

SEATTLE, Dec. 7: Holland America Line is celebrating the 40th anniversary of its evolution from a traditional trans-Atlantic crossing company to one dedicated to premium vacation cruising with a "Memorable Crossings" story writing contest. The line is looking for moving and memorable tales that center around a Holland America Line trans-Atlantic crossing. Entrants are encouraged to submit first-hand accounts or stories told to them by family members or friends who have sailed an unforgettable Holland America trans-Atlantic voyage. Whether adventurous, heart-warming or humorous, the entrant whose story earns the most accolades for its emotional impact, originality and creativity will win a cruise for two on the 2011 nine-day "Classic Crossings" aboard ms Rotterdam.

"Holland America Line has a deep history that goes back generations, and we receive many poignant letters about making this epic journey -- whether it was to immigrate to the United States or taken simply for pleasure," said Richard D. Meadows, CTC, executive vice president, marketing, sales and guest programs. "This isn't a writing contest, but more a compelling story-telling contest. We want to hear the incredible and moving stories about a route that defined our line for decades, and there's no better way to celebrate such a pivotal transition period in our company's rich history."

One entrant from North America will win a stateroom on the July 12 trans-Atlantic departure that sails to Rotterdam from New York with a call at Cobh (Cork), Ireland, a time-honored stop on crossings of the past. This sailing follows a nine-day voyage that departs Rotterdam, the Netherlands, on July 3, 2011 and calls at the traditional crossing departure port of Southampton, England, before heading across the Atlantic to New York. The contest runs through March 15, 2011. A panel of judges appointed by Holland America Line, including President and CEO Stein Kruse, will select the winner, who will be announced by April 11, 2011.

During the crossings, Holland America Line will offer numerous opportunities and activities to celebrate the line's 138-year heritage including a bon voyage sail away party, captain's gala party, guest lecturers and chefs and a special commemorative gift. For novices and enthusiasts, Bridge and dance instructors as well as hosts will be onboard. In addition, guests can discover more about the company's history by visiting the Crow's Nest, which will be set up as a "Museum at Sea" during both crossings, and attending a lecture by renowned maritime historians.

Special guests on these sailings include Bill Miller, considered an international authority on the subject of ocean liners and cruise ships; Maritime artist Captain Stephen J. Card, the official chronicler of the Holland America fleet; and Royal Designer of Industry Stephen Payne, OBE, vice president chief naval architect for Carnival Corporate Shipbuilding, who will share his nautical knowledge on the July 12 voyage. The celebrated Pasadena Roof Orchestra is scheduled to provide the authentic, big-band dancing sounds of yesteryear for both itineraries. Popular Dutch singing sensation "Frank in Person" plans to dazzle guests with his Frank Sinatra looks, singing style and repertoire from Rotterdam to New York.

Guests looking to sharpen their skills in the line's Culinary Arts Center will have the opportunity to learn from master chefs on both cruises. Dutch Chef Cas Spijkers is scheduled to sail on the July 3 crossing. The author of 10 cookbooks and culinary educator has prepared lavish dinners for the Dutch Royal Family, starred in his own television series, "Cooking with the Stars," and was named as the Netherlands' "Masterchef of the Century" in 1991. Daniel Orr, chef and owner of FARMbloomington, is scheduled to sail on the July 12 departure. Orr draws from a lifelong curiosity about individual ingredients combined with extensive training in the art of finding food's true essence and flavor.

U.S. Coast Guard Honors Norwegian Cruise Line With Gold Marine
Environmental Protection Award

MIAMI, Dec 7: The United States Coast Guard awarded Norwegian Cruise Line the Gold 2010 William M. Benkert Marine Environmental Protection Award in the foreign vessel category. This biennial award was created to recognize outstanding achievements in marine environmental protection that go beyond mere compliance with industrial and regulatory standards. This is the first time a major cruise line has been awarded the Gold Benkert award. Rear Admiral William Benkert is considered by many to be the father of the U.S. Coast Guard’s marine safety and environmental protection mission. Captain Minas Myrtidis, Norwegian’s vice president of fleet regulatory compliance, accepted the award yesterday at a reception in San Diego, California.

“We are honored to have the United States Coast Guard bestow on us such a high honor in environmental practices and standards,” said Kevin Sheehan, Norwegian’s chief executive officer. “Norwegian takes extreme pride in the measures we go to in order to protect the waters on which we sail and the environments of the ports where our ships call.”

For more than four decades, Norwegian has committed to the protection of the oceans and most significantly through sustainable environmental practices, investments in technology and a commitment to exceed regulatory requirements. Just in the past two years, Norwegian has:

Reduced solid waste volume by 25 percent;
Treated black and gray waste water to near drinking water standards, earning local government approval in states with some of the most rigorous discharge laws;
Taught 150,000 children and youth passengers (2-17) to become better stewards of the environment through the “Officer Snook” education program, offered exclusively on board Norwegian’s ships;
Delivered 150,000 gallons of cooking oil onshore that has been converted to bio-fuel for use in motor vehicles, reducing petroleum consumption and greenhouse gas emissions.
I nvested more than $25 million to upgrade its 250-acre private island, Great Stirrup Cay, with the newest wastewater treatment facilities, and disposal and recycling activities.

In addition to these recent initiatives, Norwegian has invested more than $50 million on new environmental protection technology, as well as on a shore-side department devoted to environmental protection. Each ship sails with a trained Environmental Officer (EO), a three-stripe, non-watch standing officer whose function aboard the ship is the implementation, training, oversight, and verification of shipboard environmental compliance. The EO also provides assistance to Norwegian’s Fleet Regulatory Compliance (FRC) Department shore-side in the development of environmental policies and procedures. All on board crew receive training on environmental procedures prior to assuming shipboard duties, as well as specialized environmental training appropriate to their individual job and responsibility.

Environmental Accolades
I n May 2007, Norwegian Sun received the Port of San Francisco’s 2006 Cruise Ship Environmental Award which recognizes cruise ships whose on-board environmental systems help decrease air and water pollution. In 2008, Norwegian Pearl received the same award.
The Port of Seattle issued a certificate and flag to both Norwegian Star and Norwegian Pearl in 2009 in recognition of their voluntary use of low-sulfur MGO fuel in the inaugural year of the Port’s At-Berth Clean Fuels program.
Norwegian participated in the Port of Los Angeles’ voluntary speed reduction program in 2008 and 2009. In 2009, the company achieved 100 percent compliance for 64 arrivals and departures. The Port also recognized the company for voluntarily using low-sulfur MGO fuel during port calls in 2008. Both programs are designed to reduce air emissions.
The line also received the Venice Blue Flag award from the Venice Port Authority in 2008 and 2009 in recognition of using lower sulfur fuels in the Port.

The year-long partnership will include several in-kind and monetary donations and fundraisers, as well as bringing smiles and fun to the patients of the MUSC Children’s Hospital. Under the partnership, Carnival’s involvement includes:

• Four Fun Centers, mobile entertainment units that include a Nintendo Wii console, flat panel television and DVD player. Each Fun Center can be rolled up to the side of patients’ beds or throughout the hospital. Two laptops will also be donated, both items helping to improve the quality of the child’s life in the hospital setting.
• Quarterly shows for the children in the MUSC Children’s Hospital Atrium, by a Carnival cruise director, Fun Ship Freddy and other talent.
• A total of 1,000 Towel Pals delivered throughout the year to provide companionship and comfort to the children.
• A donation to the Children’s Hospital through fundraising efforts at the Cooper River Bridge Run.
• A spring fund-raising effort, currently in the planning stages.

“We are excited to expand our partnership with MUSC Children’s Hospital after a fun tie-in at last year’s Cooper River Bridge Run,” said Mike Julius, managing director U.S. sales for Carnival. “This hospital makes a positive impact on these children’s lives. It is extremely important to Carnival Cruise Lines, and part of our ongoing corporate philosophy, to give back to the Charleston area community in a meaningful way while bringing smiles to children’s faces.”

In May 2010, Carnival Cruise Lines officially launched the first, year-round cruise service from Charleston on the Carnival Fantasy, with destinations to The Bahamas and Key West, Fla. In 2011, Carnival will also offer a series of Bermuda cruises for the first time from Charleston.

“We are thankful for the positive reception Carnival has received since the launch of our year-round cruise service,” added Mike Julius. “The Port, the Charleston Area Convention and Visitors Bureau, area travel agents and many other business and community leaders and residents have provided support and partnership, enabling Carnival to truly feel a part of this great community.”

The partnership will begin December 2010 with the first of the quarterly entertainment shows occurring on Dec 17. The goal for the partnership is to provide $50,000 through a combination of monetary and in-kind donations and fundraising efforts. The Fun Centers are expected in the first quarter of 2011. Information for the upcoming entertainment events, fundraisers and Cooper River Bridge Run involvement will be announced at a later date.

Response By Princess Cruises to Concerns about Omission of Israel on
Egypt Port Guide Map

SANTA CLARITA, CA, Dec 3: A false rumor is spreading that Princess Cruises has intentionally omitted Israel on our port guide maps which are used to provide information to our passengers going ashore on tours. We want to clarify this issue and set the record straight. It has been drawn to our attention that our port guide map for Alexandria, Egypt, while labeling other neighboring countries in the region, had neglected to label the country of Israel. After looking into the matter, our conclusion is this was a mistake on the part of the company that provides our port guide maps. It was certainly not our intention to omit Israel from the map.

In all other maps included in our marketing materials such as our brochures and our web site, Israel is clearly labeled. When our ships call at the Israeli ports of Ashdod and Haifa, we have passenger guides for these ports, which are also labeled with the regional highlights we hope our passengers will experience. Copies of the brochure map and port guides can be viewed at: www.flickr.com/photos/princesscruises/sets/72157625395908049. We're sorry if our unintentional omission caused any misunderstanding. We've been bringing passengers to the Holy Land for over two decades, and next year we have 27 calls in Israel scheduled.

Princess Cruises Creates New Alaska Cruisetour Just for Fishing Fans in 2011

SANTA CLARITA, CA, Dec 1: Princess Cruises has introduced a new Alaska cruisetour option just for fishermen (and women) as part of the 2011 season. This new 14-day land/sea vacation includes special excursions just for anglers, with opportunities to cast their lines in some of the state's premiere fishing spots. Participants on the new tour can try their hand at salmon fishing in the Inside Passage from Ketchikan, bottom fishing for halibut near Juneau, and river fishing on two Alaskan rivers--the Kenai and Talkeetna--on excursions from Kenai Princess Wilderness Lodge and Mt. McKinley Princess Wilderness Lodge.

"Fishing is such an iconic part of the Alaska experience, that it made sense to offer a special tour especially for those who want to focus their time on the sport," said Jan Swartz, Princess Cruises executive vice president. "We include a variety of fishing experiences so our passengers can get a taste of the array of fishing opportunities found throughout the state."

The new fishing cruisetour includes a 7-day Voyage of the Glaciers cruise through the Gulf of Alaska featuring scenic cruising in Glacier Bay National Park, plus two nights at the Kenai Princess Wilderness Lodge, two nights at the Mt. McKinley Princess Wilderness Lodge, two nights at the Denali Princess Wilderness Lodge and one night in Anchorage. Participants will not only enjoy fishing tours throughout their vacation but also scenic travel via Princess Rail and a Natural History Tour in Denali National Park. Fishing excursions include:

Alaska Sportfishing Expedition (Ketchikan) Participants can experience the thrill of fishing in the "Salmon Capital of the World" in the calm, protected waters of the Inside Passage. Passengers will travel in a large, heated cabin cruiser and can test their salmon sportfishing skills on a five-hour expedition to troll for king salmon, pink salmon, chum salmon, and silver salmon, depending on the season.

Halibut/Bottom Sportfishing Adventure (Juneau) This excursion takes a small group on a journey to experience bottom fishing for halibut, Pacific cod, arrow-tooth flounder and nearly a dozen species of rockfish, depending on the season. The five-hour experience includes fishing in 180 to 350 feet of water with bait or plastic lures near the ocean's bottom. Bottom fishing appeals to anglers of all experience levels, as fish are easy to hook and usually very abundant. During the trip to the fishing grounds, participants may also spot some of the region's other wildlife, including whales and sea lions.

Kenai Upper River Sportfishing (Kenai Princess Wilderness Lodge) Famed for its trophy-sized fish, the beautiful upper Kenai River is one of the finest recreational areas in Alaska. Tour participants can experience world-class fishing surrounded by dazzling mountain scenery aboard a non-motorized drift boat or raft. Anglers will be catching either sockeye salmon, Dolly Varden or rainbow trout, according to the season.

Alaska Sportfishing (Mt. McKinley Princess Wilderness Lodge) Both experienced and novice fishing fans will enjoy testing their luck on the Talkeetna River. Anglers will travel by boat to a secluded fishing spot in the shadow of Mt. McKinley, where they will cast for king, silver or red salmon, rainbow trout, grayling and Dolly Varden, depending on the season. An experienced guide will steer the group to the area's optimum fishing holes.

All tours follow fishing seasons and regulations as determined by the Alaska Department of Fish and Game (ADF&G). Fishing licenses are not included in the package price; participants can purchase appropriate licenses at each location or directly from the ADF&G. Passengers must be at least 12 years old to participate in the cruisetour.

Fares for the new fishing cruisetours begin at $3,248 per person, based on double occupancy. Additional information about Princess Cruises is available through a professional travel agent, by calling 1-800-PRINCESS, or by visiting the company's website at www.princess.com.

Celebrity Cruises Enhances Online Portal For Its Most Loyal Guests

MIAMI: Following the well-received introduction of a series of member-driven enhancements to its “Captain’s Club” loyalty program last year, Celebrity Cruises has upgraded the program’s online portal. New, interactive features make it easier for Captain’s Club members to view and manage important details related to their membership account, including their sailing history and upcoming reservations.

“Our Captain’s Club members are our most loyal guests, and they are at the center of our attention not just while they’re onboard, but before they cruise and after they return home,” said Lisa Kauffman, Vice President, Marketing. “We have revamped their online experience in the members-only section of celebritycruises.com, in order to make it easier and more enjoyable for them to use.”

The new features include a membership summary, which provides Captain’s Club members with easy access to view their membership number, tier and credits earned. Additionally, the site now displays each member’s sailing history and upcoming reservations. Members also can take advantage of a new feature throughout the site that offers them the ability to look up their Captain’s Club member number, and special limited-time offers and promotions for Captain’s Club members are now visible in a single place. The Captain’s Club e-newsletter page also has been enhanced to showcase not only the current newsletter, but also the three previous editions, giving members an opportunity to browse hot topics on demand.

In 2009, Celebrity refreshed its three-tiered Captain’s Club program by adding new benefits such as the Captain’s Club Celebration, a one-of-a-kind social and entertainment event available to all members; richer Internet and laundry benefits for Select and Elite tier members; and a new onboard lounge exclusively for Elite members. The brand even introduced an official theme for the club, which doubles as its ongoing commitment to members: “The center of our attention.”

The new functionality that allows members to view their sailing history is currently available only to members who reside in the United States. Celebrity Cruises plans to make those features available to members in other markets, in the future. Celebrity’s fleet currently consists of 10 ships. Its $3.7-billion investment in building five stylish Solstice Class ships between 2008-2012 represents the largest five-year investment in premium cruising. Norwegian Cruise Line CEO Sails Into Uncharted Waters On CBS’s
Hit Show “Undercover Boss”

MIAMI: Norwegian Cruise Line and CBS jointly announced today that Norwegian’s CEO Kevin Sheehan will appear on an upcoming episode of the Emmy-nominated hit reality series "Undercover Boss" on the CBS Television Network.

"With 11 Freestyle Cruising ships in our fleet and more than 16,000 employees both shipboard and shoreside, it’s challenging to keep in tune with our crew who are the face of the company and interacting with guests on a daily basis,” said Sheehan. "When I joined the company, one of my goals was to ensure consistency across our fleet and make sure that we are delivering exceptional cruise vacations for our guests. Participating in ‘Undercover Boss’ helped me to see that we have phenomenal crew members who are working extremely hard to deliver on that promise, but it also shed some light on areas that could be improved."

During the episode, Sheehan went undercover on two of the company’s Freestyle Cruising ships: Norwegian Epic, the company’s newest, largest and most innovative vessel; and Pride of America, the only US-flagged passenger cruise ship sailing inter-island cruises in Hawaii. While on board, Sheehan worked alongside crew members in various departments.

“It definitely was an eye-opening experience,” added Sheehan. “I’ve always had the utmost admiration for our crew, but after this experience, I can proudly say we have truly remarkable crew members throughout our fleet.”

For more information on Sheehan’s undercover cruises and Norwegian Cruise Line, visit www.ncl.com/undercoverboss.

About Kevin Sheehan: A native New Yorker and avid basketball fan, Sheehan is married with two children. Since taking the helm of Norwegian Cruise Line in 2008, he has overseen major company initiatives including vastly improving on-board service and amenities across the fleet; expanding the line’s European presence; repositioning two of the line’s Hawai’i-based ships creating a profitable business model; revitalizing top management with a mixture of cruise industry and outside expertise; and using his extensive 30-year background in the business world to help Norwegian post a sharp turnaround in profitability in the midst of a tough economic climate.

While there, he integrated the Avis and Budget rental car brands into one network and also successfully completed a 100 percent initial public offering of Wright Express. Prior to joining Cendant Corp, Sheehan served in leadership positions at STT Video Partners LLP and Telemundo Group, Inc. He also spent two and a half years consulting to private equity firms and lecturing full-time at Adelphi University in New York as a Distinguished Visiting Professor of Accounting, Finance, and Economics.
