Royal Caribbean International's newest vessel, Adventure of the Seas, made her United States debut last week. Before her naming ceremony in New York City, where she sailed with approximately 2,000 police and firemen's family members on a special two-night tribute cruise, she called on Boston. Speaking of new ships... Would you like to attend the first-ever DUAL cruise ship christening? When bottles of Nicolas Feuillatte champagne simultaneously burst against the bows of Norwegian Cruise Line's two new vesselsNorwegian Sun and Norwegian StarCruise Diva will be there in Miami and you can join in the festivities as well. NCL has announced that the ceremonies will be available online via LIVE WEBCAST this coming Saturday, November 17th. - This week, Holland America Line added several more accolades to its long list of awards by ranking among the top three large-ship cruise lines in the Conde Nast Traveler 2001 Readers' Choice Awards. In addition, Holland America also received Porthole Cruise Magazines' Annual Editor in Chief Award for operating the Best Private Island in the cruise industry, as well as top awards for Best Shore Excursions, Best Lecture Series, Best Cruise Line for Physically Challenged, and Best Alaskan Itinerary in Porthole's own Reader's Choice Awards.
- Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd. has a new hand at the helm. Jack Williams has been named president and chief operating officer of Royal Caribbean International and Celebrity Cruises. In this role, Williams, previously president of Royal Caribbean International, will manage the day-to-day operations of both cruise lines, which will continue to operate independently under his stewardship.
- Carnival Cruise Line is set to inaugurate 'FUN SHIP' Cruising from Mobile, Alabama. The World's Largest Cruise Line has announced an all-new series of Two- to Six-Day Sailings from Mobile scheduled for March 2002.
